Scarecrow season brings little visitors to Dulverton!

There were smiles all round at Abbeyfield House, Dulverton, on Tuesday afternoon when the children from Little Owls Nursery joined our residents for some scarecrow festival fun.

The children brought along their very own scarecrow, Sam, to meet our resident scarecrow, Cedric! 💜

After the introductions, everyone got creative with some colouring and tucked into some yummy homemade biscuits.

It was a lovely afternoon for our residents, who were delighted to spend time with the children. It’s wonderful to see different generations coming together, sharing a little creativity and making happy memories.

The smell of freshly baked Chelsea buns was wafting through Abbeyfield House in Romsey recently, where some of the residents have been busy making these delicious treats from scratch before sitting down to enjoy them for their supper! ☕🍰

One of the lovely things about independent living at Abbeyfield is that you can continue to enjoy the hobbies you love, try new things and share everyday moments with others. Whether it’s baking, chatting over a cuppa or simply enjoying something homemade, there are plenty of opportunities to bring people together.

Walking into somewhere new is easier when you know you’ll receive a warm welcome!

Taking that first step into a new place can feel a little daunting, especially when you don’t know anyone. That’s why a friendly face, a warm welcome and a lovely cuppa can mean so much.

Zoe, our House Manager at Dulverton, was delighted to receive this beautiful thank-you card from someone who recently joined us for their very first coffee morning.

They wanted to thank our residents and staff for making them feel so welcome, and we’re delighted they took the time to share their lovely message. 💜

At Abbeyfield, our coffee mornings are a chance to meet new people, enjoy good conversation and perhaps even make a new friend or two. There’s always a cuppa on offer and, of course, some delicious cake! 🍰☕

At Clandon House in Dorchester, our chef, James, recently celebrated his 40th birthday, and everyone came together to make it a special occasion.

It's really lovely to see residents and staff sharing these moments together, just like a real family.

It's more than sharing a house. It's being part of a community where people know one another, care about one another and love celebrating life's milestones together. 🥰

What a lovely morning at Abbeyfield House, Dulverton!

The sun was shining for their Harvest Coffee Morning, with a scarecrow theme, plenty of delicious cakes and lots of friendly faces.

Even better, the morning brought some new faces through the door, which made it extra special. It was lovely to welcome new people into the Abbeyfield community and enjoy a morning of conversation, cake and good company. 💜

And, thanks to cake sales and generous donations, an amazing £181.50 was raised!

Cake sales at Abbeyfield House, Dulverton are really becoming quite a thing!! A huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a success!

“Becoming a Trustee sounds like a big commitment, and I’m already busy…”

We completely understand why you might think that.

The good news is, becoming a Trustee doesn’t necessarily mean taking on a huge time commitment. It’s a chance to use the skills and experience you already have to make a meaningful difference, alongside your existing work and commitments.

At Abbeyfield Wessex Society, our Trustees play an important role in helping shape the future of the charity and the lives of the older people who live in our houses.

You don’t have to have been a Trustee before, either. What matters is what you can bring — your experience, perspective, ideas and enthusiasm.

We’re currently looking for two new volunteer Trustees, particularly people with experience in finance, law or social housing regulation, but we’re also keen to hear from people who can bring different skills and perspectives.

If you’ve ever thought about becoming a Trustee but wondered whether you’d have the time, perhaps it’s worth having an informal conversation and finding out more. 💜

Applications close 31 October.

Fancy a morning of knitting, crochet, crafting and good conversation?

Come along and join us at Abbeyfield House, Bradford on Avon, for a relaxed morning of creativity and companionship. Whether you’re an experienced knitter, a crochet fan, working on a craft project, or simply fancy a cuppa and a chat, everyone is welcome! 💜

And we love seeing the things our residents create. Betty recently knitted this adorable teddy for Gloria — how cute is he? 🧸💕

Bring along your current project, pick up your needles or hook, or just come along for the natter.

A little creativity, a little conversation and plenty of tea — what’s not to like?

We’d love to see you there! 2.30pm, donations welcome (funds raised go into the residents' amenities fund).
