Will there be people around me?

Yes! Every Abbeyfield Wessex property has welcoming communal areas where residents can spend time together, enjoy a cuppa and get to know their neighbours.

Our houses are staffed, and we also host regular activities such as coffee mornings, which bring residents and the local community together.

It’s all part of creating a friendly, sociable environment where you can enjoy your independence while still feeling connected.

Is Abbeyfield Wessex a care home?

No — Abbeyfield Wessex provides independent living accommodation, not care homes.

Our aim is to make sure you feel warm, safe, comfortable and at home, while giving you the freedom to live independently.

Sometimes, residents may need a little extra support. If that happens, this can be arranged separately by the resident or their loved ones, according to their individual needs.

You’re free to come and go as you please, keep up with your usual routines and make the most of everything your local community has to offer.

Our regular residents’ meetings are an important part of life at Abbeyfield — a chance for residents to share their views, suggest ideas, give feedback and help shape life in their home.

This time at Clandon House in Dorchester, we went back to black and white with a special “Who’s Who?” theme! 📸

Each resident brought along a photo of themselves from when they were younger, and we had great fun trying to guess who was who!

What we thought might be a quick bit of fun turned into an hour-long conversation, as the photos sparked memories, stories and plenty of laughter. 💜

It was a wonderful reminder that sometimes the best conversations are the ones you don’t plan for.

Join our team as Finance & Operations Officer

We’re looking for a part-time Finance & Operations Officer to join our central office team at Abbeyfield Wessex, based in Westbourne, BH4 9DS.

This is a varied, hands-on role supporting our Director of Finance and Business Support, and working closely with our House Managers across our homes.

From management accounts and month-end reporting to payroll, procurement, tenancy administration and supporting our business systems, this is a role with plenty of variety, responsibility and opportunity to develop your skills.

We’re looking for someone with finance or bookkeeping experience who is organised, reliable and enjoys working as part of a small, supportive team.

If you’re looking for a part-time role where your skills can contribute to a charity with a real purpose, we’d love to hear from you. 💜
