⚠️ Guidance for Strong Conditions ⚠️
With strong winds and powerful swell forecasted for tomorrow, we’d like to remind everyone of the hazards these conditions can bring and share some key safety advice to help keep you safe. 🛟
🌊 Strong winds and swell can create hazardous sea conditions, including:
• Powerful breaking waves
• Strong currents, particularly around structures such as groynes and piers
• Difficult and unpredictable water movement
👇 HOW TO STAY SAFE 👇
• 🏖️ Choose a lifeguarded beach
• 🚩 Know your flags:
🔴🟨 Red and yellow flags = Safe area to swim ✅
🚩 Red flag = Do not enter the water ❌
• 👮 Follow lifeguard advice and instructions
• 🚧 Stay well clear of groynes, piers and other structures
If you get into difficulty, Float to Live:
• 🔙 Lean back with your ears submerged
• 🌬️ Relax and breathe normally
• ⭐ Spread your arms and legs to stay afloat
• ✋ Signal or call for help
🏄 Using craft or other equipment?
• Always go with someone else
• If going alone, carry a means of calling or signalling for help
• Never go further out than you can comfortably swim back
• Equipment can and does fail. be prepared
• Check the conditions and tides, and know your limits
• Always tell someone where you’re going and when you expect to return
