Incident 19. June 2026

The team were called at 1705 to reports of possible ordnance on Ynyslas beach (there’s a bit of a theme here - 3 in a row!)

We were given photos of the area it was found in so the team searched and located the item (as well as an additional item of ordnance also in the area) and EOD were again called to assess the items.

They arrived after having been diverted to another incident at 2115, clarified the items were in fact both ordnance and detonated the items at last light around 2200.

The team got back to station, washed the vehicle down and stood down just after 2300.

There are many items of ordnance washed up on the beaches locally. If you see anything you suspect to be ordnance DO NOT pick up or move it. Call 999, ask for coastguard and give as exact a location as you are able.

Remember, if you see anyone in difficulty on the cliffs, shoreline or out to sea call 9️⃣9️⃣9️⃣ and ask for the COASTGUARD.

Callout 18. June 2026

The team were called at 0931 this morning to reports of potential ordnance at Ynyslas beach.

We met with the informant and were happy that the item was definitely not ordnance. However, whilst in the area, one of the team spotted a piece of actual ordnance very close by.

EOD were once again called and confirmed the item needed disposing of. The team kept a cordon on the beach and EOD arrived about 1630 and detonated the item.

Although the initial report was this time not ordnance, it was absolutely with good intent that it was called in and this time led to us finding and making safe actual ordnance.

Callout 17. May 2026

The team went back to the location of the ordnance found yesterday at Ynyslas beach along with the EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) team once the tide had uncovered it again.

The coastguard team provided a safe cordon on the beach and EOD were able to detonate and make safe all the items found.

Thanks to everyone whose beach day we disrupted by creating such a large cordon and thanks for enabling us to keep you all safe.

Incidents 15 and 16. May 2026

The team had a very busy day on Friday with 2 call-outs and a training session. We were called after lunchtime to reports of ordnance on the beach at Ynyslas which involved a search to locate the items and then a beach cordon.

We arrived back at station around 5pm but were meeting again at 6pm to travel to Tywyn for some mud awareness training. Borth is a rope rescue team but our colleagues at Tywyn are trained in mud rescue. We now have an understanding of their kit and what is needed for a mud rescue should we ever need to go and support them in a callout.

As we were driving back from Tywyn we received our second callout of the day to a possible person in trouble at sea. Some of the team were only a few minutes away from the location so diverted immediately and Borth RNLI Lifeboat also headed to the scene. On this occasion it was a false alarm with good intent and there was no one in difficulty. We would always prefer to be called and stood down than not called and someone genuinely have been in trouble.

Incident 14. May 2026

The team were called out at 1301 to reports of persons in the water near to Ynyslas.

The brilliant Borth RNLI Lifeboat located and picked up the casualty bringing them to shore for our team to assess and support.

A strong offshore breeze today means that inflatables/paddle boards and body boards will be pulled out to sea very quickly. Always check weather conditions and tide times before entering the water.

Remember, if you see anyone in difficulty on the cliffs, shoreline or out to sea call 9️⃣9️⃣9️⃣ and ask for the COASTGUARD.

Incident 13. May 2026

The team were called out at 1546 on Friday to support Tywyn Coastguard Rescue Team/ Gwylwyr y Glannau Tywyn with reports of a child missing at the beach at Aberdyfi.

Luckily, the child was located safe and well before our team arrived so we stood down

On Saturday morning the team gathered again to work on our rope rescue skills practising our cliff top set up, rope tech skills and recovery.

Remember, if you see anyone in difficulty on the cliffs, shoreline or out to sea call 9️⃣9️⃣9️⃣ and ask for the COASTGUARD.

Incident 12 2026

The team were called out at 0020 this morning along with HM Coastguard Aberystwyth to reports of a person who had been reported lost in the sand dunes at Ynyslas.

By using the last known location of the person, a search area was planned out and we split into smaller search teams to cover the ground, using our training to be as effective as possible.

Borth RNLI Lifeboat Station and Aberdyfi Lifeboat also came to assist in the search - thank you teams.

The person was eventually located in the dunes by the coastguard teams, cold and wet but otherwise safe and well.

The teams returned to their stations to wash down the vehicles and eventually stood down just before 4am.

Remember, if you see anyone in difficulty on the cliffs, shoreline or out to sea call 9️⃣9️⃣9️⃣ and ask for the COASTGUARD.

Incident 11 2026

The team were called just after midnight to reports of a vehicle stuck on Ynyslas beach very close to the water at high tide. The occupants had attempted to self rescue their vehicle but it had become even more stuck so it was a challenging rescue, but eventually the vehicle was freed.

As coastguard our responsibility is to people not vehicles, however, if there is any risk to those individuals we will always do our best to free the vehicle and lower any risk to people. A vehicle that could potentially be submerged is also a pollution risk.

We returned to station to wash down the truck and our very sandy kit/torches and headed back to our beds at 0130 this morning.

Remember, if you see anyone in difficulty on the cliffs, shoreline or out to sea call 9️⃣9️⃣9️⃣ and ask for the COASTGUARD.

Incident 10 2026

The team were called out at 1619 to a piece of suspected ordnance on Borth beach. This time it turned out to be a false alarm with good intent but we would like to thank the individual for calling and reporting the item as it is always better to be safe if you’re unsure.

There are many items of ordnance washed up on the beaches locally. If you see anything you suspect to be ordnance DO NOT pick up or move it. Call 999, ask for coastguard and give as exact a location as you are able.
