Two men have been arrested in connection with an aggravated burglary in Bushey.

Officers from Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Serious and Organised Crime Investigations Unit (SOCIU) carried out an operation regarding an aggravated burglary which occurred in Normansfield Close, Bushey, on 12 May 2026. Supported by officers from the Operation Support Group and the Metropolitan Police Service, the SOCIU executed two search warrants at addresses in Hemel Hempstead and Tottenham.

Two men were arrested and a viable firearm, ammunition and Class B drugs were recovered at the London address.

Richard Batchelor, aged 24, from Hemel Hempstead, was arrested and subsequently charged with aggravated burglary. He has been remanded into custody.

Eric Burrel, aged 24, from Tottenham, was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary, possession of a firearm and possession with intent to supply Class B drugs (cannabis). He has been released on court bail.

Both men will appear at St Albans Crown Court on Thursday 9 July.

Detective Sergeant Chris Cowell, from the SOCIU, said: “Burglary is one of our main priorities and can have a devasting effect on victims, particularly when in rare circumstances violence is involved. We are determined to relentlessly pursue any criminal who uses violence until they are brought to justice. If you have any information about this burglary, please get in contact.”

❗ Police are warning children and young people to keep away from abandoned buildings following several incidents in .

Abandoned buildings can present hidden dangers such as:

⚠️ Unstable floors and staircases that can collapse without warning
⚠️ Broken glass, sharp metal and hazardous materials
⚠️ Exposed electrical wiring
⚠️ Unsafe roofs and structures weakened by age or weather
⚠️ Biological hazards such as asbestos and stagnant water
⚠️ The risk of getting trapped in confined or unsecured areas

PCSO Daniel Lewis, from the Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We know that urban exploring is a popular activity and these abandoned and derelict sites often appear exciting or mysterious. However, these sites are highly unpredictable, with the potential for serious injury to occur without warning. We’re also receiving reports of young people entering these buildings with the intention of causing damage or to take drugs.

“Anyone who enters enclosed land or buildings without lawful authority may be committing an offence under the Vagrancy Act. Those who access premises - including abandoned properties, with the intent to cause damage or steal could face more serious charges, including burglary.

“Parents and guardians are urged to have conversations with children about the dangers and to ensure they understand that entering abandoned buildings is both unsafe and against the law."

Anyone who witnesses unsafe behaviour around an abandoned building is asked to report this via our online chat at https://orlo.uk/4y5PI or by calling 101. If you believe life is in danger, call 999.
