Soring above the rest! ✈️

Congratulations to the our Wing Cadet Warrant Officer (CWO) Rahman on earning his Gild Wings! We are immensely proud of your dedication to achieving this epic Milestone!

Below is CWO Rahman's summary of the Course:

From the 5th to the 22nd of May 2026 I attended the Air Cadet Pilot Scheme (ACPS) course at RAF Woodvale with three of other cadets from across the corps. This course involved flying training from University Air Squadron (UAS) flying syllabus with the aim to achieve the solo standard.

This coursehas been the highlight of my cadet career and has provided me with an exceptional experience with the general flying aspect, as well as adapting it to the RAF style of flying training.

It was an intense but rewarding week, and I am pleased to have been awarded my gold wings following the completion of the course. Which means I have achieved solo standard to fly the tutor aircraft.

I’d like to thank all the instructors and staff based at LUAS and MASUAS for all of their efforts to fly us. I have thoroughly enjoyed this course and would absolutely recommend anyone with the passion for aviation to submit their application for the ACPS on the next round of applications!

Saturday 9th May 3 Cadets from our Squadron joined 3 Cadets from 2313 (Rickmansworth and Chalfonts) Squadron and put the Air into Air Cadets Gliding with 644 VGS at RAF Syerston.

A fantastic day of winch launched gliding in the Grob Viking with the Sun shining and some light clouds giving the cadets and their pilots great weather conditions to soar through the air.

In April cadets from the Squadron attended a STEM Event at Hertfordshire University.

The Cadets got experience simulators for race cars and aeroplanes, along with activities in AI, soldering, aerodynamics and much more.

It was a fantastic opportunity to discover all the opportunities available at Hertfordshire Uni and to check out their School of Physics, Engineering, Maths and Computer Science. What an incredible facility!

A huge thanks to Flt Lt Morewood and all the Herts Staff who made it a fantastic day!

Last Wednesday saw us host our annual awards evening, one of our most favourite times of the year as staff. It's an opportunity to recognise our Cadets' commitment, enthusiasm, hardwork and achievements of the last year.

Another busy few weeks for the team!

Both cadets Miele and Sahai, consolidated the airmanship on the Flight Simulator and in a flight in a Grob Tutor, earning their Blue Wings!

Cadets Burmali, Parmar and Wolak passed their Essential First Aid Qualification and have received their Blue First Aid Badges!

We spent some time down at our local pool with Cadets Uppal, Laser and Sahai achieving their Basic Swimming Proficiency 🏊‍♀️

Congratulations to Cadet Hughes who achieved her Bronze Leadership Qualification in March.

Here's what she thought about the course:

In March I attended a bronze leadership course at Welwyn Garden City squadron. In the morning we worked through the theory section of the course before going straight into the theory assessment. After lunch we focused on the practical side of the course, taking what we had leaned in theory and applying it to an initiative task, throughout the task we were assessed on our leadership and team working skills, being assessed on communication and adaptability.
I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to strengthen their leadership skills as it stands out as one of the most worthwhile and interesting courses I have taken.
