We think the Government's Planning & Infrastructure Bill is bad for nature and bad for the countryside. The Bill as currently proposed would - among other things - reduce the opportunity for legal challenges of large infrastructure projects, reduce democratic input for local authority planning decisions by restricting which planning applications could be decided by elected Councillors, and create options for developers to pay into a Nature Restoration Fund rather than taking responsibility for biodiversity protection and enhancement. CPRE together with over 30 other environmental organisations have written to the Government expressing our concerns and asking the Government to reconsider.

It is with regret I have to report that the latest assault on the Village Green has been given the go ahead by the HBC planning committee despite our best efforts to argue against.
Badgers, foxes, muntjac, bats and all the other wildlife beware!

Most Westerly of the Barnet Lane drovers ponds today, near the top of Woodcock Hill. Nearby bluebells just starting to show, but not too much wildlife in mid afternoon.

The way we use land is at a crossroads. Pressure is mounting on our countryside from reckless development and growing climate challenges, the new Land Use Framework could be a game-changer.

We should be wary of the 'growth at any cost mindset', and instead we urge the government to choose strategic, sustainable choices that protect nature, food production, and rural communities. Land is finite, let’s use it wisely.

Please see and object to planning application 25/0050/FUL. The access point by the garages is completely unsuitable - cars and pedestrians shouldn't have to share the same area for safety reasons. The steps mean that access is not possible for wheelchairs and buggies. Also the eco report provided is deficient in many respects as checks were not rigorous enough. Reliable reports of foxes in the immediate area have bee received. Removal of even one tree with a TPO is completely undesirable.
