This week, MFRS crew members stationed at our Marine Rescue Unit (MRU) situated on the banks of the River Mersey and our Community Safety Team held a series of water safety sessions in collaboration with LFC Foundationโs Premier League Kicks programme.
The sessions focused on providing young people with advice about how to stay safe around water, the role of the MRU serving the public and visitors to the region, and how to use a Throwline if you see someone in trouble in the water.
Tailored water activities were organised at Liverpool Water Sports Centre to highlight the importance of enjoying water under supervision at designated areas and activity centres.
Would you know what to do if you got into difficulty in the water?
Just remember, FLOAT TO LIVE:
๐ Tilt your head back with your ears submerged
๐ Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat
๐ Float until you can control your breathing
๐ Only then, call for help, swim to safety or continue floating until help arrives
If you see someone struggling in the water, your first instinct might be to jump in, but that can put you in danger. Instead, remember:
๐ฑ PHONE 999 for help
๐ Tell them to FLOAT on their back
๐ THROW rescue equipment to keep them afloat until emergency services arrive
