This week, MFRS crew members stationed at our Marine Rescue Unit (MRU) situated on the banks of the River Mersey and our Community Safety Team held a series of water safety sessions in collaboration with LFC Foundationโ€™s Premier League Kicks programme.
The sessions focused on providing young people with advice about how to stay safe around water, the role of the MRU serving the public and visitors to the region, and how to use a Throwline if you see someone in trouble in the water.
Tailored water activities were organised at Liverpool Water Sports Centre to highlight the importance of enjoying water under supervision at designated areas and activity centres.

Would you know what to do if you got into difficulty in the water?
Just remember, FLOAT TO LIVE:

๐ŸŒŠ Tilt your head back with your ears submerged
๐ŸŒŠ Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat
๐ŸŒŠ Float until you can control your breathing
๐ŸŒŠ Only then, call for help, swim to safety or continue floating until help arrives

If you see someone struggling in the water, your first instinct might be to jump in, but that can put you in danger. Instead, remember:

๐Ÿ“ฑ PHONE 999 for help
๐ŸŒŠ Tell them to FLOAT on their back
๐Ÿ›Ÿ THROW rescue equipment to keep them afloat until emergency services arrive

The money raised from the car wash will be split between the Fire Fighters Charity and The British Moroccan Society following the devastating earthquake in 2023.

Our International Search and Rescue Team responded to the earthquake, and they have been raising money since then to help rebuild educational institutions destroyed in the natural disaster.

Come get your car washed and support the Fire Fighters Charity and The British Moroccan Society.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week ๐Ÿ’š

As a Service, MFRS is committed to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing. From making Mental Health First Aid a mandatory part of firefighter recruit training - we treat mental health first aid as important and physical first aid - to providing critical incident stress management, counselling support, and access to our Service Chaplain, support is always available to our staff.

Through training and wellbeing initiatives, we hope to give our staff the confidence to talk openly, support others, and seek help when they need it. Our aim is to reduce stigma and create a safe, supportive environment where no one feels judged for speaking up about their mental health.

If youโ€™re struggling, please remember support is available through Fire Fighters Charity or Samaritans.

Today is Firefighters Memorial Day, a day to honour the sacrifices of firefighters who have been killed or injured in the line of duty.

To mark the day, MFRS firefighters and operational staff held a minuteโ€™s silence at midday at Community Fire Stations across Merseyside to pay tribute to and remember all those who have died or been injured as a result of their duties whilst serving their communities.

We remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and give thanks for their service and dedication.

๐Ÿป๐ŸŒŠ Alcohol and water are a dangerous combination.

Each year a number of drowning incidents involve alcohol and or drugs.

Choosing to enter the water while under the influence or walking near water after a night out can quickly lead to tragedy.

Stay aware of your surroundings especially near open water rivers canals and docks after drinking.

๐Ÿšซ If youโ€™ve been drinking avoid entering the water.
๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ Stick to well-lit safe routes away from the edge.
๐Ÿ‘€ Look out for friends and keep each other safe.

Respect the water its power and its risks
