25 people along with Past President Christopher, turned up today to commemorate 130 years since the Mass Trespass by 10,000 men over the Bolton Moors. Massive thanks to Tony Greenwood of Woodland Trust - Smithills Estate for the incredibly interesting talks on the way round.

The Mass Trespass aimed to install right of access over the moors for members of the public when Col Ainsworth who owned the land at the time wanted it closed off for his shooting and hunting pursuits. Closing access meant much inconvenience for commuters between Blackburn and Bolton and for locals wanting to enjoy the outdoors.

Thanks to the right of way, it now forms one of the highest points above sea level and incredible views along the Rotary Way Bolton which Rotary Bolton created in 2005.

🏆 A fantastic achievement for Rotary Bolton Lever! 🏆

We are extremely proud that Rotary Bolton Lever was one of only 10 Rotary clubs across North West England and the Isle of Man to be recognised for Outstanding Service in the Community for 2025–2026.

The recognition reflects the tremendous work carried out by the club during the year under the leadership of President Christopher Hill — another great example of Rotary members putting Service Above Self and making a real difference in our community.

The award was presented by District Governor Ian, together with Immediate Past District Governor Edwin, to Immediate Past President Christopher, President Maggs, Executive Secretary Richard and Past President Pat receiving the recognition on behalf of the club’s members.

👏 A huge congratulations to all our Rotary Bolton Lever members who have contributed to such a successful year.

It is wonderful to see the work of our club recognised at District level, and we look forward to continuing to serve and support our community.

🚶‍♂️🌿 Keeping the Rotary Way looking its best!

Today, Richard and Christopher, the guardians of the Rotary Way Bolton — the 50-mile boundary walk around Bolton — have been out between Smithills and Bromley Cross, replacing over 60 faded waymarkers along the public footpath, helped by friend of Rotary, Hem.

A huge thank you to them for their time, effort and dedication in keeping this wonderful walking route clear, accessible and easy to follow. 👏
