🇬🇧 Meet Yorkshire Land Girl at this year’s Bolsover Blitz!

Through immersive storytelling, heartfelt interpretations and fascinating talks, she brings to life the courage, dedication and vital contribution of the women who supported the home front during the Second World War.

It is a brilliant opportunity to hear the stories behind the uniforms and discover more about the women whose hard work helped keep Britain going.

Join us this Saturday in Bolsover for a day packed with history, entertainment and 1940s nostalgia.

Bolsover District Council invites suitably qualified and experienced contractors to attend a Preliminary Market Engagement (PME) Event for the Bolsover Town Centre Shopfront Improvement Scheme.
The proposed scheme involves the repair, restoration, replacement and enhancement of shopfronts within Bolsover town centre, which is a designated Conservation Area.
The works will include interventions to a number of Grade II Listed Buildings and will form part of the wider Bolsover Regeneration Programme, funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG).
The total funding allocation for the scheme is £1m with approximately £900,000 allocated to the shopfront improvement works.
The council is keen to engage with contractors that can demonstrate experience in:
👉 Conservation and heritage construction projects
👉 Working on listed buildings and within conservation areas
👉 Traditional building materials and construction techniques
👉 Specialist joinery and shopfront restoration
👉 Delivery of high-quality commercial property improvement works
👉 Collaborative working with local authorities, conservation officers and other stakeholders.
The PMEs take place at our Engagement Hub at 8 Cotton Street, Bolsover on Tuesday 29 September and Thursday 1 October

Each year, Old Bolsover Town Council invites one family of those commemorated on the war memorial to lay a wreath on Remembrance Day, honouring all service personnel, past and present.

Community grants available during Recycle Week

As part of Recycle Week, local community groups and organisations can access funding to support projects that help reduce waste, encourage recycling and improve the local environment.

Two grant opportunities are currently available:

♻️ Waste Social Value Programme – grants of up to £500
Derbyshire County Council’s Waste Social Value Programme offers grants of up to £500 for projects that support waste reduction, recycling and sustainability.

🌱 Derbyshire Reuse Grant – grants of £500 to £2,500
Delivered by Derbyshire Voluntary Action, the Derbyshire Reuse Grant can support a wider range of environmental projects, including recycling and reuse, biodiversity, tree planting, community growing and improvements to green spaces.

These grants provide an opportunity for local groups to turn ideas into practical projects that benefit their communities and the environment.

Oxcroft Cemetery

We are aware of reports of damage at the cemetery, along with track marks which suggest that bikes may have been ridden on the site over the weekend.

Damage or inappropriate activity within a cemetery can be particularly distressing for families and visitors, and we are asking everyone to help us protect the site and maintain it as a respectful place for those who visit and remember loved ones.

If you witness bikes being ridden on the cemetery site, please do not approach or challenge those involved. If it is safe to do so, please note the date, time, location and any useful identifying information, and report the incident to Derbyshire Constabulary.

🌹 Amid the entertainment and activity of Bolsover Blitz, we will come together for an important moment of reflection.

At 11am this Saturday, a two-minute silence will be observed at the Cenotaph area as we pause to remember those who served and sacrificed.

Visitors are warmly invited to join us in paying their respects.

Meet the organisations joining Bolsover Eco-Day 2026!

We’re pleased to welcome the Bolsover District Council Climate Change Team to Bolsover Eco-Day on Saturday 10 October 2026 at Bainbridge Hall, Chapel Road, Carr Vale.

The Climate Team works to support climate action across the district, helping communities understand the challenges and opportunities around climate change, sustainability and energy efficiency.

Come along to meet the team, find out more about the Council’s work on climate and sustainability, and discover practical ways you can make a difference in your home, community and everyday life.

Whether you're already taking steps to live more sustainably or are simply interested in finding out where to start, the team will be on hand to share information, ideas and advice.
