Last week Bodmin was host to the Esedhvos Kernow Festival of Cornish Culture - the first time in 29 years!
We're so proud to have been involved in such a special event celebrating Cornish history and culture.

Many thanks to everyone involved for their hard work, and of course Gorsedh Kernow for bringing the event to our town - meur ras!

Two events in Bodmin today celebrating this year’s Esedhvos Kernow Festival of Cornish Culture.

It’s day 2 of this year’s Esedhvos Kernow Festival of Cornish Culture.

This afternoon it’s Meet the Author with Kerensa Warleggan at 2pm in the Library at Chy Trevail. Thanks to the Library for supporting this event.

‘A Cornish modern classic. Eerie, heart-breaking, wonderful’ Mark Kermode

When a fishing boat, the Rose of Nevada, lost with all hands 30 years ago, mysteriously reappears in the old harbour of a forgotten Cornish village, for those who remember, it’s surely a sign. The boat must go out to sea again and maybe then the luck of the devastated village will turn.

Young father Nick (George MacKay) and enigmatic newcomer Liam (Callum Turner) join captain Murgey (Francis Magee), and they head to sea. But when they return, satisfied with their haul, something is amiss — they’ve slipped back in time, and the villagers greet them as if they are the original crew.

Rose of Nevada is Cornish filmmaker Mark Jenkin’s hotly anticipated and critically acclaimed follow-up to his BAFTA-award-winning first feature Bait (2019) and Enys Men (2022). Unique among British feature filmmakers for the analogue way in which he crafts his films, Jenkin once again serves as writer, director, director of photography, editor, sound designer and score composer.

Next Saturday! Over 200 Bards of Gorsedh Kernow gather at Priory Park, Bodmin for the annual ceremony, welcoming 21 new Bards in recognition of their outstanding work in serving Cornwall.

Entertainment before the ceremony includes Gwerin - Cornish Dance, The Horners, Berrycombe School Choir, Bodmin Town Band, Mazed with Nellie Sloggett and Cornish Wrestling demonstrations.

Stalls from 10:30am include Federation of Old Cornwall Societies, Speak Cornish, Kowethas: The Cornish Language Fellowship, Agan Tavas, Cornwall Heritage Trust, Millie's, Exotic Watermelons Cornwall and The Cornish Kilt Company.

The evening Gorsedh Concert in Shire House Suite features four part vocal harmony group, Hireth, singing in the Cornish language, Cornish-Celtic tunes and songs from Toby and Jen Kessell, and folk songs and tunes from Ralph Nel, featuring Elizabeth Freeborn.
