📚 Planning: 14th September – 2nd October
For the next three weeks, our Focused Story Time will explore a beautiful, comforting book linked to our Healthy Movers theme:

🦉 “Owl Babies”
written by Martin Waddell

This story supports emotional understanding, reassurance, and early language development — and it links perfectly with our Healthy Movers focus on stability and balance through the “Birds in Trees” card.

Throughout this period, children will explore movements such as standing, lying, stopping, landing, balancing, pivoting, twisting, lunging, bending, stretching and turning.
Our Healthy Movers rep, Pippa, will be encouraging children and staff to move in new ways and build confidence in their physical skills.

✨ Vocabulary & Book Focus-🦉 “Owl Babies” written by Martin Waddell our five chosen vocabulary words are:

perch
forest
shadow
worried
brave

We will weave these words into play, conversations, movement sessions, and story work throughout the setting.
Please try using these words at home — during play, chatting, bedtime stories, or everyday routines. Repetition helps children embed new vocabulary naturally.

Why Vocabulary Matters
Vocabulary includes all the words children know, understand, and use. Strong early vocabulary supports:
-language development
-communication skills
-understanding of the world
-later reading and writing
-cognitive development (thinking, problem‑solving, making sense of information)

Research shows a clear link between strong early vocabulary and later academic success. The more words children hear and use, the stronger their understanding becomes.

Working Together on Tapestry
We would love to see evidence of you and your child:
-using the new vocabulary
-reading “Owl Babies” together
-spotting the words in everyday life
-talking about the story or characters
-exploring Healthy Movers activities at home.

Together, we can build stronger vocabulary, confidence, communication skills, and a love for reading. 💛

👟 Footwear & Slippers Reminder for the Week Beginning 7th September

As we start a fresh week, we kindly ask that all children come to Preschool wearing sturdy, closed‑toe shoes.
Sandals, Crocs and wellies aren’t suitable for our outdoor equipment, especially when using the slide and our wooden furniture. Supportive footwear helps us follow our safety policies and keep everyone protected during play.

Lastly, please make sure your child has slippers in their bag. We do have a few spares, but not enough for everyone.

Have a lovely weekend.

🌟 Happy Friday, everyone! 🌟

Wow — what a full and fabulous three days we’ve had together at preschool. The children have been amazing. This morning they continued building new bonds with their key persons, learning new friendship names, practising our routines, and exploring what good choices look like.
This settling‑in learning will continue over the next few weeks, so please keep sharing those happy preschool stories at home and enjoy the photos on your Tapestry accounts.

Today has been packed with imagination and joy:

• Dinosaur stomping — loud feet, big smiles
• Doctors and cafés — endless role play and teamwork
• Grandma Sue’s return — the children were thrilled to welcome her back
• Birthday parties — wonderful make‑believe celebrations

Grandma Sue has been her usual fabulous self — a perfect role model for all our children, especially those who may not have a grandma of their own. She brings love, imagination, and comfort in the most natural way, and the children absolutely adore her.

To our mini pandas, our wonderful staff, and our families — thank you.
You’ve trusted us with your little ones, and they have all done so well. We are incredibly proud of them.

✨ Happy Friday, everyone — enjoy your weekend! ✨

🌟 What a wonderful Thursday at Preschool! 🌟

Wow — what a morning we’ve had! The children have enjoyed dinosaur printing, dolls’ house fun, pom‑pom counting, puzzles, drawing, sensory play and so much more.

I’ve just popped back into my office while the children enjoy their yummy, healthy snack, and I couldn’t be prouder. They’ve all done so well with toileting, napping, and continuing to build those strong, secure bonds with staff and friends.

I’ll be in and out of the room throughout the day, supporting the children and staff — their happiness and wellbeing always come first.

Well done, Thursday Preschool Children — let’s keep this lovely day going! 💛🌈🧸

🎉🥁 The votes are in… drum roll please! 🥁🎉

This year’s Lanivet Scarecrow Competition theme has officially been chosen by our wonderful community — and we can’t wait to see what everyone creates!

🌟 2026 Theme:
TV Themed Scarecrows
Think children’s shows, family favourites, and recognisable characters that everyone will love spotting around the village.

Enrolment forms can be collected from Lanivet & District Under Fives Preschool from 7th September.
Forms and the £5 entry fee must be returned by Monday 28th September at 1pm so we can prepare the map and display posters.

The scarecrow trail will run from 2nd October to 16th October, giving everyone plenty of time to explore before half term begins.

We’re hoping for even more entries this year — the village and the children absolutely love a good talking point. Let’s make this the biggest and best scarecrow trail yet! 🌈🧸📺

This Morning so far….

Wednesday mini pandas have been busy bees — playing, chatting, learning names, singing, snoozing and crunching their healthy snacks like champs.
You should be bursting with pride… they’ve absolutely smashed their mid‑week magic. ✨

Please note I won’t be able to respond to many emails today as I will be in the room to help all the children and staff make those essential bonds.

Thank you 🤩

🌟 Ready for Tomorrow’s Big Opening Day! 🌟

I’ve just popped in this afternoon to make sure everything is set and ready for our exciting first day back at preschool. As parents, you might be feeling lots of different emotions — and that’s completely normal. We feel them too, and we’re right here beside you.

We have a lovely range of activities planned linked to our theme “All About Us”, helping your little ones settle gently and get to know their new environment. I’ll be in ratio more than usual tomorrow so I can be fully hands‑on, supporting children and ensuring everyone feels happy and secure.

We’ll upload photos throughout the day onto Tapestry. Remember, Tapestry is a working document for all of us — any summer snaps or little messages you’d like to add can really help your child settle by sharing familiar faces and memories.

Please don’t worry — we never leave anyone unhappy for long. We have plenty of settling‑in tricks up our sleeve, and if we feel your child would benefit from a shorter session or a slightly different transition, we will give you a call to arrange this.

Funding & Sessions:
• Funding begins at 9:00am
• Paid sessions begin at 8:45am
• If you require an early drop‑off, this is available for a small fee of £3.00
• Funding hours are free, but if you require any additional paid sessions, please get in touch
• All we ask in return is your support — helping us sell raffle tickets, joining in at bingo, or donating prizes for our events really helps our preschool community

A quick reminder of what to bring:
• Bag
• Spare clothing
• Nappies, wipes, nappy bags, creams (if needed)
• Healthy snack
• Healthy lunch box
• Slippers
• Coat / suncream / hat (Cornwall weather keeps us guessing!)
• Refillable drinks cup

Please note: Any late collection past 3pm will be charged, as stated in our terms and conditions.

Our preschool mobile is always available, though our priority tomorrow will be getting to know your little ones and helping them feel safe, settled and excited. We know exactly how you’re feeling — it’s a big day for everyone.

My office door is always open.
