As Mayor of Bletchley and Fenny Stratford, and as an LGBTQ+ Christian who regularly attends church, I am deeply saddened to hear of two separate fire incidents in our community this past week.

One at St Martin's Church Fenny Stratford and the other at Pink Punters, both places that are far more than just buildings. They are beacons of hope, belonging, and community for so many.

To see two such important spaces affected in such a short time is deeply concerning.

I understand that St Martin's Church Fenny Stratford was thankfully able to reopen for Sunday service, which is a testament to the resilience and dedication of its congregation.

I also understand from Frank’s update that Pink Punters has been completely destroyed, but there is a clear determination that it will return. That resilience speaks volumes about the strength of our community.

I am aware that a person has been arrested in connection with the fire at Pink Punters. If you saw anything or have any information, please do contact the police to assist with their investigation.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected including those who may now be facing uncertainty about their livelihoods, as well as all who find comfort, faith, friendship and identity in these spaces.

Bletchley and Fenny Stratford is a community that stands together. We will support one another, and we will rebuild.

Pink Punters nightclub has been devastated by a fire which happened during the early hours of this morning (Sunday).

Brilliant to be at Stadium MK in Bletchley today with my son and friends to watch Milton Keynes Dons deliver a fantastic 3–0 win over Tranmere Rovers and secure promotion to EFL League One.

We believed..... and they delivered! My son is one happy boy! I'm so proud to be Bletchley's Mayor today!

An incredible performance, a brilliant atmosphere, and a moment to remember. Seeing fans on the pitch at full time celebrating with the players was something really special.... Football at its very best.

Huge congratulations to everyone at the Dons. Well deserved.

The Dons are going up… Olé Olé!

Great to be at Stadium MK in Bletchley today to watch Milton Keynes Dons, currently sitting second in EFL League Two, take on league leaders Bromley F.C.

An absolute cracker of a game and a fantastic performance from the Dons to secure a 2–1 win. ⚽

A brilliant atmosphere and a great advert for football in our city. Keep up the hard work chaps! 👏🏾

If you saw lots of police officers in Newton Leys yesterday it was because Newton Leys Pavilion hosted a very special meeting with the UK Prime Minister. So proud of the Town Council team who worked hard to show our fantastic community resource off. The PM is pictured alongside our Town Clerk John and Support Services Manager Cate.

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Gaydio Awards in Manchester, a fantastic evening celebrating talent, community and the power of LGBTQ+ voices in media.

As a Non-Executive Director of Gaydio, it’s always incredibly rewarding to see the impact the station continues to have, both on air and in the communities it serves. The energy in the room was brilliant, and it was great to celebrate alongside so many inspiring people.

I also had the chance to spend time in Gaydio’s brand new studio, which broadcasts across the UK on FM, DAB and your smart speakers from studios high above Manchester city centre – an amazing space and a real reflection of how far the organisation has come.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in making the night such a success, and to all the nominees and winners

Mother’s Day can be a difficult day for many people, for many different reasons. My own son lives without his Mum. Others have lost their Mums, or are facing the pain of losing them now. My thoughts are with all of you today.

Today, though, I am remembering my Mum, Liz.

Mum passed away from cancer in July 2020, so she never saw me become Mayor of Bletchley and Fenny Stratford. But she did see me become a councillor, and she was incredibly proud of that. She always encouraged my involvement in the community and believed strongly in looking after others and giving something back.

She also served the community I grew up in in Coventry, where she volunteered and helped regenerate the local area.

Those values are ones I carry with me every day in public service.

She was a wonderful Mum, a proud and devoted Nan to all of her grandchildren, and someone who brought warmth, laughter and incredible food to every family gathering. Her curry goat and rice and peas were legendary.

I often think about how proud she would be to see the work I am doing for the community she knew meant so much to me.

Happy Heavenly Mother’s Day, Mum.

What an amazing day at Stadium MK today with my son and the brilliant team from Mursley United Football Club! ⚽

A fantastic atmosphere with a record crowd of 23,460 watching Milton Keynes Dons take on Harrogate Town AFC. The Dons delivered a brilliant performance and secured a 4–1 win.

Today was also Community Day, and a huge thank you to Milton Keynes Dons for generously giving free tickets to everyone in the stadium. It meant thousands of people from across Milton Keynes could come together and enjoy a fantastic day of football.

For the young players from Mursley United, getting to experience the atmosphere of a packed stadium and watch great football together is something they will remember for a long time.

A great result on the pitch and a great example of a club supporting its community. ⚽👏

The Chains of Office – A Gift from the Town

These Chains of Office were presented to Bletchley Urban District Council by industrial firms in the town to commemorate the Council’s Diamond Jubilee 1st August 1895–1955.

They were not purchased by the Council. They were gifted by the businesses and employers that shaped Bletchley’s identity.

The engraving on the reverse records the companies who contributed, a reminder that our civic life has always been connected to local industry, enterprise and working people.

These chains were worn by every Mayor of the former Bletchley Urban District Council.

Today, they are worn by the Mayor of Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council.

They represent continuity.
They represent partnership between community and commerce. And they symbolise that civic leadership is rooted in service.

When I wear them at Remembrance services, community events and civic occasions, I do so on behalf of the whole town past and present.

A piece of our industrial history.
A symbol of our civic pride.
A reminder that as we go forward, our spirit is strengthened.

This evening I had the honour of welcoming residents and guests to Bletchley and Fenny Stratford’s third Community Iftar.

It was a delight to see people of many different faiths or none, and from different races and backgrounds, coming together in a spirit of reflection, hope and unity. That is true diversity in action.

Ramadan is a time of compassion, generosity and renewal. Tonight we saw those values lived out across our town.

We were privileged to be joined by the Mayor of MK, Callum Anderson MP, and Kurshida Mirza, the former 790th High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire who is the first British Muslim woman of Asian heritage to hold the office, along with local councillors and community leaders.

A special highlight was hearing from the children of Bletchley’s own Al Menara Arabic School before the call to prayer. Our young people represent the future of our community and seeing them take part filled me with real optimism.

In Bletchley and Fenny Stratford we are proud of our diversity. When we come together across faiths, cultures and backgrounds we strengthen the bonds that make our town so special.

Ramadan Mubarak to all those observing.
