School Age Payment applications open
Families across Scotland can apply for over £330 to help with the costs of preparing for primary school, as applications for Best Start Grant School Age Payment open on 1 June 2026.

The payment is available to eligible families with children born between 1 March 2021 and 28 February 2022. It is designed to ease the money pressures that come with a child starting primary one.

Whether a family can receive the payment depends on the child’s age and when they are first old enough to start primary school, typically between 4 and 5 years old.

Families receiving Scottish Child Payment who are eligible for School Age Payment should get an automated payment and do not need to apply.

Families do not need to wait until their child actually starts school to apply. Those who are deferring their child's start date, or whose child will not be attending school, are still eligible and must apply before applications close on 28 February 2027.

This year, we are pleased to share that the Free Kellogg's Breakfast Initiative at Morrisons cafés is returning. And the best news is that the initiative is being expanded across all school holidays, including half terms, with the aim of giving away over 100,000 free breakfasts.
Throughout every school holiday period, families visiting a Morrisons café can request a “Kellogg’s Breakfast” completely free of charge. This offer is available in all 343 Morrisons cafés nationwide.
Each free breakfast includes:
• A bowl of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes or Rice Krispies
• A choice of dairy or soya milk
• A free portion of fresh fruit

“The Welfare Rights Team provides a free, confidential and impartial welfare rights service with advice, assistance and representation on all aspects of the benefits system and we’d encourage all our families to seek advice on their entitlements. Many entitlements can be paid whilst in work and some are also non-means-tested and income and capital is not taken into account.
We will have a Welfare Rights Officer in the school on 20th May from 2.30pm to 4pm and every other week until the end of term, so you can drop-in and have a confidential chat about your circumstances. None of your personal information will be shared with any school staff whatsoever. The Welfare Rights Team are accredited to the Scottish National Standards for Information and Advice Providers and cannot share your information without consent.
If you’d prefer to seek advice out with the school environment then please do not hesitate to contact the Welfare Rights Team either by using their online referral form @ www.pkc.gov.uk/wrt or by calling 01738 476900 (option 1).
You can also follow them on Facebook “PKC Welfare Rights Team””
