⚠️ Be careful of misleading housing repair adverts on social media ⚠️

MoneySavingExpert has recently highlighted a growing number of Facebook and Instagram adverts that look like official Government support schemes for damp, mould and housing repairs, but are actually run by claims companies. Some of these firms may take a large percentage of any compensation awarded. (MoneySavingExpert.com)

If you have concerns about damp, mould, repairs or the condition of your home, please contact Tai Calon directly. We’re here to help and will work with you to put things right.

Remember:
✅ Contact your landlord first about any repair issues.
✅ Be cautious of adverts asking for personal details or promising compensation.
✅ If you’re unsure whether something is genuine, don’t click the advert – visit official websites directly. (MoneySavingExpert.com)

Here's what to watch out for and how to complain for....

📢 Big changes for renters in Wales from June 2026 - From 1 June 2026, Welsh Government is updating renting laws as part of changes to the Renting Homes (Wales) Act and Renters’ Rights legislation.

These apply to both social and private renters and are designed to make renting fairer for everyone.

What’s changing? You’ll be better protected from being refused a home because you:
✔️ Have children
✔️ Receive benefits

This means “No DSS” and “No Children” adverts will generally no longer be allowed.

What does this mean for you?

Your right to live in your home doesn’t change, and your tenancy isn’t affected. Most agreements have simply moved into a clearer “occupation contract” with stronger rights.

Important correction⚠️

We recently sent a letter with an error stating that some homes were part of a 55+ scheme. This is not correct, please ignore that part. We’re sorry for any confusion.

The rest of the letter is correct and explains two updates:
A1 – You can claim welfare benefits without interference.
A2 – Children can live in or visit your home, unless there’s a clear and justified reason otherwise.

Need help?

You’ll still receive information about these changes, but there’s no need to contact us unless you want to. Remember, nothing changes if you're an existing tenant.

Sometimes, a fresh start can change everything. Recently, we worked with a customer who was facing some difficult challenges and no longer felt safe or secure in their home. By listening, providing support, and working with partner organisations, we helped them move to a new home and begin a new chapter.

Today, they are settled, feeling safer, and looking forward to the future.

Stories like this remind us that our role is about more than providing homes – it’s about supporting people and helping communities thrive.

We’re proud of the difference our colleagues make every day and of the partnerships that help us support customers when they need us most.

A new Community Alcohol Partnership (CAP) has been launched in Ebbw Vale today, bringing local organisations together to reduce alcohol-related harm among children and young people and support safer communities where everyone can feel safe.

The partnership is a key priority of the Blaenau Gwent Anti-Social Behaviour Taskforce, led by the Council, which has recognised the impact that underage drinking can have on young people’s health, wellbeing and life chances, as well as on the wider community.

Community Alcohol Partnerships have proved effective in other parts of the UK, helping to reduce regular drinking among 13–16-year-olds and the alcohol-related anti-social behaviour that can result.

In Ebbw Vale, partner organisations include Blaenau Gwent Council (Youth Service, Trading Standards, Licensing and Community Safety), Gwent Police; South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, and Tai Calon Community Housing.
