Welcome to Day 7 of Carers Week 2026.

Today's topic is the benefits of being able to talk to someone about your situation.

Carers consistently report that accessing a Carer’s Assessment provides reassurance, emotional support, and valuable information. Key themes from feedback include:

“I feel so much better for just having chatted it all through with someone.”
“Thank you so much for listening to me today – it’s so lovely to know that there is a service specific for Carers.”
“I now feel much better about everything and you have given me so much information – thank you.”

Social Services provide Carers Assessments, information, support and advice to Carers throughout Blaenau Gwent on all aspects of their caring role. If you would like more information, please contact us on 01495 315700.

Work is continuing on a Safe Routes in Communities scheme in Swffryd, with improvements at the western end of Swffryd Road almost complete.

The scheme includes raised pedestrian crossings; dropped kerbs with tactile paving; widened and resurfaced footways; bollards to prevent pavement parking and speed reduction measures. This is all designed to provide improved access and a safer environment for active travel to local facilities within the village, including the primary school.

Work is now due for completion in July. Whilst later than planned, we’re pleased to be working with Welsh Government on a scheme which is expected to make a positive difference to the community.

Thank you to the community for your support and patience while work is carried out.

A new project at Parc Bryn Bach in Tredegar is helping young people gain valuable skills whilst making a difference to their local environment 🌳

The project is being delivered as part of Blaenau Gwent Youth Service’s in-school youth work offer at Ebbw Fawr Learning Community and brings together young people and the park’s grounds team to provide practical, hands-on learning opportunities in an outdoor setting.

This week is Great Big Green Week, the UK’s biggest celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature

The project is helping to support young people who are beginning to show signs of disengagement from education. The aim is to re-engage them through meaningful activities that build confidence, skills and a sense of achievement.

It’s Carers Week 2026 & todays topic is around the benefits of baking. 🍰

Can baking be a therapy? We are now seeing that more and more adults are turning to baking as a way to relax, relieve stress and as a perfect way to re-focus on something. Give it a go!
