Rare Otter Sightings Caught on Camera 🦦

This footage of a female otter with her two pups was just a snippet of the flourishing UK wildlife identified by zoo cameras at Marton Mere Local Nature Reserve recently.

As part of ongoing small mammal surveys led by Blackpool Zoo, Wyre Rivers Trust and Friends of Marton Mere, we are using observational data to help make key decisions relating to the long-term management of Marton Mere SSSI, ensuring the local wildlife populations remain stable for years to come.

It's official... Blackpool Zoo is good for you!

New research carried out right here at the zoo has found that just one visit to Blackpool Zoo improves your mood, reduces stress and leaves you feeling calmer and happier. Whether you're watching the orangutans, walking through the park, or taking part in one of our animal interactions, the science shows that time at Blackpool Zoo is genuinely good for you! This Mental Health Awareness Week we are proud to say that your happy place is also your healthy place.

Thank you to the hundreds of visitors and members who took part in our wellbeing research!

We are proud to be taking another step forward in accessibility.

From next week, we will be introducing discreet incontinence bins in male toilets across the zoo. This small but meaningful change helps create a more inclusive and supportive environment for those who need it.

Our first Wellbeing Walk, held exclusively for Blackpool Zoo members, took place on Sunday afternoon around the calm natural setting of Marton Mere Nature Reserve.

Alongside an abundance of native species spotted throughout the walk, including a buzzard that came fairly close, the sun was shining and our guests were thrilled to be out enjoying our local green spaces.

We were also delighted to be joined by Andy’s Man Club, a mental health charity encouraging men to know that

Being outdoors and surrounded by nature can have a hugely positive impact on our wellbeing, which is why we have a number of exciting Wellbeing Walks planned for the whole family to enjoy. All Wellbeing Walks are completely free to attend.

Keep an eye on our socials for more updates about future native species events.

Giving back to nature! πŸŽ„

Yesterday, staff, student interns and zoo volunteer group Ali's Gang helped to plant donated Christmas trees for the Fylde Sand Dunes project alongside the Lancashire Wildlife Trust, Fylde Council, Blackpool Council and the Environment Agency.

By planting these trees along the coast, it helps strengthen existing dunes, form new ones, boost natural flood defences, and create vital habitats for native wildlife.

With over 2,000 trees donated and more than 600 volunteers, this amazing project highlights the community's effort in safeguarding our coastline.

Sustainable palm oil community update!

We are very excited to announce that Coral Island Blackpool is now a champion for sustainable palm.

Coral Island has added its voice to the growing list of businesses and facilities in Blackpool that are making an active effort to supply products that contain sustainable palm oil.

Unsustainable palm oil is having a devastating effect on rainforest habitats. Reducing the demand for unsustainable palm oil and making switches in our purchasing habits are two of the ways that we can ensure a future for animals like the Bornean orangutan.

If you are a local business based in Blackpool that would like to join the campaign and do your part to help protect wildlife, you can find more information and contact us here: https://ow.ly/6Blt50QswLA

If you want to learn more about palm oil, including our sustainable palm oil shopping list, you can find more information on our website.
