🚨Urgent - Action Needed!🚨

The government is consulting on major changes to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), including new policies on onshore oil & gas and coal.

This is a significant opportunity to strengthen planning policy and move away from fossil fuel expansion.

⏳ The consultation closes at 11:45pm on 10 March 2026.

We’ve prepared a short, practical briefing highlighting the key questions relevant to onshore fossil fuels (Q100–110), and simple points you can incorporate into your response. This can be done whether you’re submitting as an individual, group or organisation.

If your group or organisation are already responding on other areas of the NPPF, please consider including the fossil fuel elements. If not, this is a straightforward way to engage to defend climate friendly planning.

Of course this calls into question whether Cuadrilla will be in a position to meet its obligation to close down, clean up and clear off of the site at Preston New Road, Lancashire.

[...Two Cuadrilla companies to cease trading:

Annual accounts for Cuadrilla South Cleveland Limited and Cuadrilla Gainsborough Limited, published this week, said the process had begun to dissolve the companies.

Cuadrilla South Cleveland was the operator of licences PEDL288 and PEDL346, both in East Yorkshire.

Cuadrilla Gainsborough operated licence PEDL276 in South Yorkshire.

All three licences had been awarded in the most recent 14th onshore round in 2015 but had never established oil or gas sites.

PEDL276 had firm commitments to drill a vertical well, drill and frack a horizontal well and carry out new 2D and 3 seismic surveys.

PEDL288 and 346 had commitments for drill or drop wells and new seismic surveys.

All the licences reached the end of their initial exploration term in July 2024 without meeting these work programmes.

The industry regulator, the North Sea Transition Authority, refused an extension to the licence initial terms.]

TOMORROW at Lancashire County Council Preston...

An important meeting at County Hall to discuss and decide on Cuadrilla's application to keep dragging its heels and leaving the mess till some point in the far distant future as it launches yet another appeal for an extension (what another one?!!).

Local residents and campaigners will be meeting outside from around 9:30am before going in to hear from Councillors and the public (including Frack Free Lancashire's Nick Danby).

[Cuadrilla, failed to return the site to farmland by June 2025 under the terms of a previous planning permission.. and now seeking a further extension until 30 June 2027.

But planning officers said in a report:

“The proposed extension of time for the retention of the site in its current form would result in unnecessary and unacceptable harm to the rural character of the area.

“The proposed variation would conflict with the original intention and purpose of the condition, which was imposed to ensure the lifetime of the development was strictly controlled and that the land would be restored to its former condition within the approved timescale.

“The proposed amendment would not secure the restoration of the site at the earliest opportunity”.

The planners said the extension would breach national and local planning policies.]

Please do attend if you can... it has always been the power of the local people that has held this dangerous/damaging industry at bay.

[...Cuadrilla said it needed another year for groundwater monitoring in order to surrender one of its environmental permits. It said it also needed extra time to restore the site to pasture.

This was the company’s second attempt to get more time for restoration. If the county council’s planning committee votes against the extension, it would be the first planning refusal for Preston New Road in a decade.]

Officials in Lancashire are recommending refusal of a bid to extend the life of the mothballed Preston New Road fracking site near Blackpool.

And another... this too has long been
Green Party of England and Wales policy... members/representatives of the Greens, certainly never 'kept schtum' (see link to Novara Media https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1346790073485801 ).

Like many Green policies, it just needed to be heard.

I've been in a discussion that evolved around 'personality politics', media hype and who to trust. The new 'Leader' of Green Party of England and Wales was an issue raised. The reason I popped ' ' around the word leader is because GPEW has a different structure to other Political Parties. Originally, 'Principle Speaker' was the title for this role ie: 'leaders' are spokespeople for policies created by members and voted in at conference.

Member-led:
Zack is no more 'in charge' than Sian, Adrian, Caroline etc. - he is reflecting and echoing the work of thousands of members and decades of their hard work.

Trusting personalities and individuals is always a hard ask - I base my membership on the party's founding philosophical Basis and stay because I know the incredible hard work for nature, environment and society being done by members throughout England & Wales.

>>The principal speakers performed the public and media roles undertaken by the leaders of more conventional political parties. Green parties often consider joint leadership of this kind to embody the widely held Green beliefs in consensus decision making and gender balance. It also symbolises their belief in the need for a society in which people are empowered and involved in making the decisions which affect them. In the party's Philosophical Basis, it states that the Green Party "reject[s] the hierarchical structure of leaders and followers, and, instead advocate[s] participatory politics" and it is "for this reason" that the Green Party has eschewed an individual leader.
