Missing several mortgage payments does not mean you'll lose your home. Taking your home should be your lender's last resort.

There are steps you can take to get back on track. For example, you can:
- work with a debt adviser on paying as much as you can
- ask to go on the breathing space scheme, which stops any court action while you get debt help
- look at options to extend your mortgage to make payments easier.

Your lender should work with you to make sure everything is done to help you keep your home.

šŸ‘šŸ»The Prime Minister's aim to get everyone sleeping rough off the streets by this Christmas is the kind of bold leadership we can get behind.

The signs are encouraging.

At this Autumn’s budget, we need that same unwavering ambition to getting councils building homes for their communities.

Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, wants to end rough sleeping by Christmas. But his plan must be backed by a council housing revolution.

Sharing on behalf of our friends at Shelter Merseyside.
We can arrange to pass on any items from our Blackburn hub to our Merseyside hub if anyone local is able to assist two little ones celebrating their birthday in temporary accommodation?

Could you help make a birthday special for two little ones that Shelter Merseyside are supporting?

For most children, birthdays are a time of excitement, presents and making happy memories. But for one family currently living in temporary accommodation, Mum is facing the heart breaking reality of not being able to afford birthday presents for her children.

Her son’s 5th birthday is coming up on 6 September, followed by her little girl’s 2nd birthday on 26 September. The children don’t need anything extravagant but something to unwrap, something to make them smile and something that reminds them that their birthdays matter.

The little boy likes cars and superheroes, so toys or birthday gifts around those themes would be very welcome. But any age-appropriate birthday present would make a huge difference.

If you have a new or good-quality gift that you could donate, please get in touch with Shelter Merseyside on ([email protected]). We are unable to respond to messages on social media. If you want to drop any items off, our hub is open 9:30am–4:30pm.

Let’s help make sure these little ones still get to have their birthday whilst we work to make sure they have a safe place to call home.

Thank you,

The Shelter Merseyside Team

New statistics released this month show the number of children homeless in the North West is up 8% and the highest since records began.

Across England, 177,530 children will wake up this morning without a place to call home. This is the heart breaking reality of homelessness.

Across Shelter hubs, we are urging the new Prime Minister to use the upcoming Autumn Budget to see through his ambitious pledge of delivering the biggest council house building programme since the post-war period.

Because there is no place like home.

Many people in Lancashire face wait times of months, or more often years, for council and housing association homes.

Do you know what to do to check if your council has given you the right priority on the housing waiting list?

How priority for social housing works in each area depends on the council’s ā€˜housing allocations’ policy.

Find out what to look for and what to do if you think your council hasn’t followed their policy with our advice page: https://shltr.org.uk/waitinglist.

No one should wait years for a safe and secure home. We need to build more social homes and end the housing emergency.

All of us at Shelter are absolutely delighted to have been chosen as the charity partner for this year’s Gingerbread House Festival competition hosted by Gingerbread and Wood Bay Resort & Spa.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone behind this wonderful community event for supporting Shelter and helping raise awareness of the fight for home through our Winter Appeal.

Whether you're a seasoned baker, a creative decorator, or simply love getting into the festive spirit, we'd love to see you take part. Every gingerbread creation helps shine a light on the importance of having a safe place to call home while supporting our work to tackle homelessness and the housing emergency.
