Let's hope the weather is kind and everyone has a fantastic Gala Day. Can we all take a minute out to think about and thank the incredible committee for the huge amount of work they put in throughout the year to make this day happen. Special mention to all the ladies on the committee who have worked their socks off all year, especially these past few weeks and even more over the last couple of days. They have put in so much time and passion it's truly inspiring. They really are the rock of Blackburn Galaday and without them this day would never have happened, so on behalf of our entire village THANK YOU. Also a huge thank you to all the other volunteers and sponsors. HIP HIP HOORAY!

Thanks to David Mitchell & his mum for donating these original Blackburn Galaday programmes. All in great condition. They were kept by David's dad up his loft. The oldest is from 1957, almost 70 years old. What an incredible find and such a kind and generous offer to donate these. We will find a place in our museum once it's up and running later this year. I will post 1957 and 1958 tomorrow with 1959 and 1961 on Saturday.

From Jackie Potter " for those who knew my mum Margaret Clarkson, to let them know she passed yesterday at the age of 93.
My mum stayed in Riddochill Drive with my gran Mary and Grandad Aben , she had three siblings Aben , John and Isa . Mum married my dad James (Jimmy) Price in Blackburn Church 2 July 1960 when she left Blackburn and moved to Edinburgh before settling in Livingston in the latter half of the 60โ€™s
Our thoughts are with Jackie and family at such a sad time x

Margaret Walker ( maiden name is Margaret Wright )
" It was the Gala Day 1958 or 1959. I am with my friends Caroline Reid & Eleanor Crookston. Also in photo is Mrs Quinn & Marjory Quinn, Eleanor Colquhoun, Sylvia Khan. I recognise a few more but canโ€™t remember names. "
Thank you for sharing with the History of Blackburn Margaret x
This is what makes the History of Blackburn what it is, fabulous photos like this one from years gone by and the memories of friendships, families and occasions. Giving all this history and memories a place where people feel comfortable to share is why History of Blackburn was started in the first place. I am sure Margaret's photo with names will indeed stir a few memories for many on this page and for the younger generation it gives a wee step back in time for future generations to look back upon. Yes all of the above is what a single photo, with some names and a little bit about the background on what's going on can add to the history of our village. The brilliant memories and lives of Blackburn people saved forever, which in turn continues to grow the story of our fantastic wee village. It's only possible due to people like Margaret Walker who so kindly take time to send and trust the History of Blackburn to share their photos, memories and life stories. What a great wee place Blackburn is.

Almost 60 years ago Blackburn was the envy of many villages, towns and indeed cities across Scotland. By the end of the 1960's our village would have at its centre the most modern shopping centre, most modern community centre, most modern library and most modern social clubs. It was boom time for Blackburn and it's population that had jumped from around 4K to over 9K in less than a decade. The Golden Hind was a huge building at the centre of the new shopping precinct that would dwarf any other social building throughout most of Scotland's villages and towns. As the name suggests, the Golden Hind was the flag ship of this new modern Blackburn. A little village chosen to be home to so many new families and individuals who would come from Glasgow and many other places. Blackburn in the second half of the 1960's was the place to be. We would love to hear from anyone who used / visited the Golden Hind back in the 1960s, be it birthdays, engagements, weddings, retirement or any other celebration. Photos would be most welcome as they are scarce from around this period. We wouldn't mind if your story slips into the 1970s as this was another huge decade for Blackburn. Thanks
