This month, the Inclusive North team has continued championing Black and Racially Minoritised (BRM) communities through action, collaboration, and systems change work across the North West.

Our team delivered a series of listening and engagement events, gathering important feedback from BRM VCFSE groups about their experiences of grant funding, systems change, and the support communities want to see through The Phoenix Way. These conversations are helping to inform a more equitable and inclusive approach to funding and community development. Stockport Race Equality Partnership Kyp Rochdale Greater Manchester Ethnic Communities Network

Over the month, the team also attended and supported a range of networking and partnership events, strengthening relationships with BRM organisations and encouraging leadership and collaboration across communities.

Some key highlights included:

📍 The official launch gala of Colour of My Skin (COMS) in Manchester, an inspiring event attended by over 320 guests from the business, community, arts, and public sectors, celebrating COMS’ commitment to equality, unity, and racial harmony.

📍 The PEP Enterprise Launch & Lead event, bringing together BRM/GEM community builders to explore opportunities for stronger leadership, representation, and long-term impact within communities.
Alongside these events, we carried out visits and one-to-one support sessions with a diverse range of BRM VCFSE organisations, supporting groups to establish, grow, and continue delivering vital work across the North West.

We also welcomed Blackburn MP Adnan Hussain to our offices for an important discussion about the work Inclusive North is leading and how BRM communities in Blackburn and across the region can engage with Inclusive North to strengthen and grow the BRM VCFSE sector.

If you’re an organisation, community group, or individual who wants to connect, collaborate, or learn more about our work, we’d love to hear from you. Together, we can create lasting impact across the North West.

🚨 We’re proud to support *‘Out of Sight, Out of Mind’* A powerful new campaign from Imkaan.

This campaign shines a light on how Black and minoritised women are being overlooked when it comes to accessing specialist mental health support.

At its launch, Imkaan shared new research revealing that Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) are failing to fund the vital services that support Black and minoritised women who have experienced violence against women and girls (VAWG).

This needs to change.

The campaign is calling on the government to:
✔️ Ensure ICBs properly fund and work with ‘by and for’ specialist organisations
✔️ Strengthen accountability and oversight of mental health support for victim-survivors

📢 Over 40 organisations across the VAWG, mental health, and racial justice sectors have already signed a joint letter calling for action.

✨ Building stronger communities, together ✨

We had an incredible time at Greater Manchester Ethnic Community Network's Phoenix Way event 🙌

From powerful conversations to honest reflections, it was inspiring to see organisations come together to:
🤝 Share lived experiences

💬 Open up dialogue on barriers to accessing mainstream funding

One of our main takeaways...
Even where connections already exist, there’s so much potential for deeper networking and future partnerships!

The importance of nurturing leadership rooted in lived experience within Black and racially minoritised communities was clear throughout.

This is just the beginning! Real change happens when voices are heard and acted on.

🌍✨ Last week, we attended Ubele's International Women's Day Event at Wolves Lane Centre & the launch for Okun Alliance for Community Wealth Building at the Abbey Centre in London, and it was truly inspiring!

🔥 A key moment was seeing our CEO, Naz Zaman, hosting a fireside chat with Caribbean tea. It was thoughtful, honest, and a reminder of how important these spaces are for sharing voices and driving impact.

🤝 Events like this show what’s possible when communities come together, collaborate, and lead the conversation.

Led by The Ubele Initiative, Okun brings together activists, community leaders, academics, and policymakers with a shared goal:

👉 Creating a more inclusive, fair, and community-led future.

The conversations throughout the day were powerful, grounded in lived experience and focused on real change, from tackling inequality to influencing national policy.

We’re excited to see how the Okun Alliance grows over the coming year and the change it will help create.
