This Armed Forces Day, our Forres activity centre will be celebrating with a Craft and Car Boot Sale.

⏰Sat 27th June, 10am-2pm
🏠 EVAC North, 1 Tytler St

The event will bring the local community together for a relaxed day of shopping, fundraising and support for Veterans. Inside the centre, visitors will be able to browse a selection of handmade items from eight local crafters, while outside in the car park there will be space for nearly 30 car boot sellers.

The centre’s newly-refurbished kitchen will also be open on the day, serving bacon rolls and hot drinks, giving visitors the perfect chance to enjoy a cuppa, grab a bite to eat and spend time with others in the community.

All craft spaces have now been secured, but car boot spaces are still available. Anyone interested in booking a car boot spot should email [email protected].

We’d like to express out heartfelt thanks to the wonderful team at the Moulsdale Foundation Museum. Every month, they kindly invite us along to their Open Days, allowing us to raise funds and awareness for Erskine, whilst inviting our Veterans and staff along to the see their fabulous collection of cars and motorbikes.

Our latest visit at the end of May saw around 50 Veterans and staff from Erskine join, and everyone had a wonderful day out.

We're already looking forward to the next one! Keep an eye out, and we’ll see you there 🚗💨

Please join us in congratulating two incredible women who have just raised more than £8,000 for Erskine and mental health charity Youth Walk by completing a 12-day expedition to climb Mount Kilimanjaro 👏👏👏

Lily Carmichael, (24), from Forres, and Emma Henderson, (53), from Kinloss, joined a team of 25 climbers to tackle the 19,340ft peak, the world’s highest free-standing mountain above sea level. Vital funds were raised by Lily and Emma for Erskine Veterans Activity Centre North (EVACN) in Forres.

The pair chose to support Erskine because of their personal links to the military community. Lily is a military child and Emma a military wife, and both have seen first-hand the excellent support Erskine provides to veterans and their families.

Army Veteran Chris Downie had one wish: to walk again.

Thanks to supporters like you, he's taking steps towards that goal: https://bit.ly/49ILvKH

After a head-on collision with another vehicle, Chris Downie was gravely injured and needed to be resuscitated 3 times.

Chris spent four months in a coma. Upon waking, he had a significant brain injury affecting his communication, memory and mobility and had learning difficulties. Chris was just 32 years old at the time of the accident.

Thanks to the support of our generous donors, Chris has been able to work closely with physiotherapist Andy to improve his mobility. Chris is now able to walk the length of the physio department, and is getting a little further every day.

Donations from supporters impact the lives of individuals at Erskine every single day. Please donate if you're able.

Today marks the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, a pivotal moment in WW2.

Codenamed Operation Neptune, D-Day was marked by the coordination of 13 different countries of the Allied forces converging towards Normandy in a 5000-vessel flotilla.

The ensuing Battle of Normandy lasted into August and cost tens of thousands of lives as it defeated the occupying N**i forces. It was a decisive success for the Allies and paved the way for the liberation of much of northwest Europe.

Over the years, Erskine has been honoured to support D-Day Veterans including Albert Lamond, who died in February at the age of 100. Speaking about his experience, Albert said "D-Day is very difficult to talk about. It wasn’t very nice – you could say that. We could see all the men trying to get ashore, not knowing what was waiting for them. All we could do was watch, hoping to defend as many of them as we possibly could. We understood the importance of what we were doing and why we had to do it. But it didn’t make it any better."

It's hugely important to continue to share these memories and events to ensure we learn from the horrors of war, and never forget those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Sarah Smith, one of Erskine’s dedicated Ambassadors, proudly supports our work. Her father, Bill, was a lifelong philanthropist who devoted himself to supporting charitable causes.

Bill received care from Erskine in his later years, remaining with us until his passing in 2019. In this piece, Sarah reflects on what Erskine’s care meant to her father in the final chapter of his life, and shares their story.

Please join us in wishing RAF Veteran John a very happy 100th birthday! 🥳🎈

John attends our activity centre in Forres, and enjoys sharing tales of his full life including decades of service in the Royal Air Force.

John was born in Sunderland to parents Arthur, a maltman, and Louise, a housewife, who were originally from Ireland. Louise sadly died when John was just 5 years old and he was brought up by his grandparents in Roker Park with his brothers and sisters. The family of nine shared just three rooms.
