🚔 Rural Crime Week 2026 - 06/09/2026 to 11/09/2026

Rural Crime Week is an important opportunity to engage with our farming communities, raise awareness of rural crime and support those working hard to protect their businesses, property and livelihoods. We respond to rural crime all year round however this week provides the opportunity to raise further awareness about rural crime and the effects it has on the community. The past week we have been involved in numerous activities such as providing crime prevention advice, erecting signage in hotspot areas and conducting reassurance patrols in rural areas.

🐴 Please Take Extra Care Around Horses on Our Roads 🐴

We would like to remind motorists about the importance of driving safely when encountering horses on the road. Horses can be easily startled by vehicles, particularly those travelling too quickly or passing too closely.

Many riders have no alternative but to use sections of the road network to access bridleways and local routes. A moment of patience from drivers can make a significant difference to everyone's safety.

When approaching horses:

🚗 Reduce your speed and approach with caution
🐎 Leave plenty of room when passing
🤝 Be patient and avoid unnecessary noise or sudden movements
✋ Pay attention to any signals from the rider
⏳ Wait for a safe opportunity to pass if the road is narrow

No journey is so urgent that it's worth putting someone's safety at risk. By showing consideration to horse riders and other vulnerable road users, we can help prevent collisions and injuries.

Officers from Bishops Castle Safer Neighbourhood Team attended a road traffic collision in Lydbury North this afternoon following reports that a cyclist had been knocked from their bicycle.

On arrival, officers found the cyclist being cared for by passing motorists who had stopped to provide assistance. The road was closed for a short period to allow ambulance crews to attend and assess the injured cyclist.

Thankfully, while the cyclist sustained injuries, they were not believed to be life threatening. They were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further treatment. The road has now been reopened.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who stopped to help. Incidents like this serve as another reminder of the fantastic community spirit we have here in South Shropshire.

PC McWatt was pleased to attend yesterdays magical Michaelmas Fair in Bishops Castle, joining local residents, families and community groups for a fantastic day of celebration.

Events such as the Michaelmas Fair provide an invaluable opportunity for neighbourhood policing teams to engage with the public in a relaxed and informal setting. Building positive relationships within our communities is a key part of local policing, helping us to better understand the issues that matter most to residents, share crime prevention advice, and strengthen trust and confidence in policing.

Thank you to everyone who stopped to say hello, and to the organisers and volunteers who made the event such a success. We look forward to continuing to work alongside our communities and supporting future local events.
