🚒 Fire Safety Workshop in Oak Class 🔥
Oak Class had an exciting visit from the Bishop Auckland White Watch, who came in to teach us all about fire safety and how to keep ourselves safe.
The children learned about potential fire hazards in the bedroom and discussed what they should do if a fire ever broke out. They were fascinated to find out about the amp limits of extension leads and why it’s so important not to overload them!
It was a really informative session and the children asked some fantastic questions. As part of their learning, they’ve even been set some important homework—to talk with their grown-ups about an exit plan and what to do in the event of a fire.
A huge thank you to the team for such a valuable and engaging visit! 👏🔥

Peer Pressure

This week Oak pupils took part in an engaging workshop on peer pressure delivered by the County Durham Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service.

Have a look at these fantastic posters—children contributed thoughtfully, shared their ideas confidently, and listened carefully throughout. It was wonderful to see such mature discussions and creativity in their work.

Oak Class Workshop – Piece of Mind Team

Today, Oak Class took part in the first of a series of workshops delivered by the Piece of Mind Team from the NHS. During the session, the children explored different feelings and discussed ways to recognise and understand their emotions.

They were also introduced to a calming technique called hand breathing, which the children found really helpful and engaging. This is a simple strategy they can use to manage their emotions and support their wellbeing both in school and at home.

We are looking forward to the rest of the sessions and continuing to build on these important skills.

🌻 Let’s Grow! 🌻
Oak Class had a wonderful afternoon working with Sarah, a resident from Hunwick, who kindly provided all the resources and a sunflower seed for each child to plant. 🌱
The children had great fun getting stuck in, and we’re excited to see how their sunflowers grow over the coming weeks… who will grow the tallest one? 🌻📏
A big thank you to Sarah for such an enjoyable afternoon! 😊

🎶 Recorder Club Update! 🎶
Recorder Club got off to a fantastic start this week! The children really enjoyed getting to know the recorder – learning about its different parts and how to hold it correctly.
We were also very excited to learn our very first note… B! 🎵 Well done everyone for such a brilliant start – we can’t wait to build on this next week! 👏😊

Chestnut Class have been learning all there is to know about life on a farm and some animals that you may find living there. On Tuesday they had a fantastic trip to Hall Hill Farm to find out about farm life and to meet some of the wonderful animals that they have there. The children fed food to the goats, sheep and alpacas, bottle fed some baby lambs and got to hold some baby chicks. They had a fabulous time on the tractor ride, and even learnt how to milk a cow!

Computing Art in Maple Class

Maple Class explored the exciting link between art and computing by creating digital artwork inspired by famous artists Piet Mondrian and Pablo Picasso. Using computing software, the children developed their skills by working with geometric shapes and confidently using the fill tool to add bold colours to their designs.

The pupils learned how simple shapes and lines can be combined to create striking pieces of art, just like the styles of Mondrian and Picasso. They showed great creativity and concentration, and the finished artwork was vibrant, imaginative, and truly impressive.

Well done, Maple Class, for your fantastic computing art!
