Southside Showcase: Safer Southside – Community Safety for Businesses

Whether you’re a business owner, employee or simply spend time in Southside, you’ll discover practical safety tips and initiatives that you can use in your day-to-day life, as well as learn more about the work being done across the district to improve safety and create a safer Southside.

🎤 Guest speakers:
Paul Street, Project Manager of Safer Colmore, will cover safer environments, women’s safety, hate crime, current safety initiatives and support available through BIDs.

Paula Shortland, WMP Safer Travel Policing Team, will share practical advice on safer travel to and from Southside.

A great opportunity to learn, share experiences, raise concerns and connect with other Southside businesses.

Birmingham Heritage Week 2026 starts today! 🎉

For the next 10 days, Birmingham comes alive with events celebrating the buildings, places, people and stories that make our city’s heritage so remarkable. 💛

If you’re a ticket holder, we’re looking forward to welcoming you to Southside for some fantastic experiences, including the Back to Backs Open Day, the Old Rep Theatre Backstage Tour, and our very first Birmingham Chinatown Heritage Tour with Food!

These smaller-capacity events sold out quickly when bookings opened in August — but there are still plenty of ways to get involved!

🚗 Brum Transport Festival
Join us at Hippodrome Square on Saturday 19 September, 11am–5pm, for a wonderful display of classic cars as part of the festival.

And beyond Southside, there are heritage walks, talks, exhibitions, open days and behind-the-scenes experiencestaking place across Birmingham from 11 to Sunday 20 September.

Our Birmingham AIDS & HIV Memorial and Smallbrook Queensway have recently had a thorough jet wash, helping to freshen up these important spaces and keep Southside looking clean, welcoming and cared for. ✨

It’s all part of our ongoing work to keep our district looking its best for businesses, residents and visitors. 💜
