International Day of Charity โ€“ Sat 5th Sept 2026 ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒ

Today, we celebrate the power of giving and philanthropy to alleviate suffering, bridge societal gaps, and uplift vulnerable communities. Charity fosters connection and strengthens the fabric of our global society. โœจ

Whether through donating resources, volunteering time, or supporting local initiatives, every act of generosity contributes to creating a more equitable world.

As Albert Schweitzer (physician, and humanitarian) said โ€“ โ€œThe purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others.โ€ ๐ŸŒฑ

Letโ€™s use today as a reminder to extend a helping hand, support charitable causes, and make compassion a central part of our daily lives. ๐ŸŒฑ

Summer Scheme Highlights: 4 Weeks of Fun, Learning, and Adventure!

Our 4 Weeks Summer Holiday Activities and Food Scheme started with a bang! Almost 200 children registered across our sites, with around 100 attending daily to take part in an exciting program filled with fun, hands-on learning, active sports, and healthy living.

Every morning, our children started the day with a nutritious breakfast featuring a choice of different cereals, toast, eggs, fresh fruits, milk, and water. At lunch, everyone refuelled with warm, healthy hot meals served fresh alongside fresh fruit and drinks to keep energy levels high throughout the day. We were also able to add weekly water sports thanks to Sea Cadets Edgbaston and dry slope skiing with Ackers Adventure.

Week 1: Kicking Off with Tai Chi, Teamwork, and Creative Crafts

During our first week, we got straight into action to build team spirit and sharpen focus.
โ€ข Sports & Physical Activities: Daily Tai Chi sessions helped kids active, calm, and focused. Outdoors and in the halls, groups played football, cricket, rounders, and basketball.
โ€ข Energizer Games: Younger primary kids loved the fast-paced Caterpillar Relay, Bouncing Ball, and Buzz Game. Secondary groups tested their focus and quick reactions with Group Juggle, Capture the Flag, and high-energy Dodgeball.
โ€ข Arts & Crafts: Creative minds got to work! Primary children crafted friendship bracelets, balloon cups, and paper planes, while secondary participants tackled complex projects like paper robotic hands, magic cards, and cup grabbers.

Week 2: First Aid and Seaside Surprises!

Week 2 mixed active skill-building with special workshops and our very first big day trip!
โ€ข Special Workshops: Secondary participants stepped up for a St Johnโ€™s Ambulance First Aid Session, gaining valuable life-saving skills.
โ€ข Sports & Games: Alongside Tai Chi, kids played golf, hockey, and team sports. Energizers included the Bottle Race and Cup Race for primary kids, alongside the Cup Head Challenge and Back to Back Countdown for secondary groups.
โ€ข Arts & Crafts: Craft sessions featured paper frogs, straw rockets, and flying cups for younger kids, alongside boomerangs, paper fidget spinners, and helicopter toys for older groups.
โ€ข Day Trip: The highlight of the week was our Day Trip to Blackpool Seaside! 100 kids headed to the coast for a day filled with seaside fun, soft sand, and unforgettable memories.

Week 3: Shaolin Martial Arts and Exploring Nature

In Week 3, we transitioned into new physical disciplines and scenic outdoor destinations.
โ€ข Sports & Physical Activities: We introduced Shaolin Martial Arts daily, teaching discipline, strength, and coordination. Groups also engaged in outdoor matches of cricket, rounders, and hockey.
โ€ข Energizer Games: Fun challenges like Pictionary, Simon Says, and Softball Race kept primary children laughing, while secondary groups competed in Reverse Charades and Capture the Flag.
โ€ข Arts & Crafts: The kids turned recycled items and paper into artโ€”making spinning blades, watermelon windmills, paper planes, and dustbins.
โ€ข Day Trip: We loaded up the coaches and visited Carding Mill Valley! The kids spent the day exploring nature, walking along stream trails, and enjoying fresh valley air.

Week 4: Safari Adventures and Grand Finales

Our final week wrapped up the summer scheme on a high note.
โ€ข Sports & Physical Activities: Shaolin Martial Arts continued, paired with high-energy games of hockey, football, rounders, and basketball.
โ€ข Energizer Games: High-speed group challenges included Rescue Run, Stack and Run, Rope Laser, and Hula Hoop Dodge.
โ€ข Arts & Crafts: Children showed off their talents by making levitation balloons, paper chain snakes, endless paper cubes, table fans, flower crafts, and classic paper lanterns.
โ€ข Day Trip: For our grand finale trip, everyone went on a safari at West Midlands Safari Park! The children had a fantastic day seeing wild animals up close and exploring the attractions.

Thank you to all of our incredible team leaders, staff, volunteers, parents and children who made these 4 weeks safe, smooth, and full of joy. We canโ€™t wait to see everyone again next time!

International Day of the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition โ€“ Sun 23rd Aug 2026 ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒ

Today, we break the silence surrounding the tragedy of the transatlantic slave trade. We honor the resilience of those who fought against oppression and remember the millions of lives profoundly impacted by historical injustice. โœจ

Acknowledging this painful history is crucial to understanding contemporary systemic racism and working collectively toward a more equitable and inclusive world.

As John Henrik Clarke (American historian, writer) said โ€“ โ€œTo be conscious of being a slave is to be conscious of freedom.โ€ ๐ŸŒฑ

Letโ€™s commit to teaching history truthfully and continuing the ongoing global fight against modern slavery, racism, and human exploitation. ๐ŸŒฑ

World Humanitarian Day โ€“ Wed 19th Aug 2026 ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒ

Today, we honor the incredible dedication and bravery of humanitarian workers who risk their lives to deliver life-saving aid to people in crisis. They embody the very best of humanity in the face of conflict and disaster. โœจ

In a world facing unprecedented global challenges, the work of humanitarians serves as a powerful reminder of our interconnectedness and shared responsibility to care for one another.

As Princess Diana said โ€“ โ€œCarry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.โ€ ๐ŸŒฑ

Letโ€™s show our deep appreciation for those who serve on the frontlines of crisis, and commit to bringing compassion and relief to those who need it most. ๐ŸŒฑ

International Youth Day - Wed 12th Aug 2026 ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒ

Today, we celebrate the energy, creativity, and potential of young people around the world. Young people are driving innovation, challenging ideas, and shaping the future of our communities and our planet. โœจ

Across every field -from education and technology to climate action and social change- youth continue to inspire progress and bring fresh perspectives to the challenges of today.

As Nelson Mandela (South African leader, politician) said - โ€œThe youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow.โ€ ๐ŸŒฑ

Letโ€™s empower, support, and invest in young people -not just today, but every day- because when young people thrive, our future grows stronger. ๐ŸŒฑ

World Day for International Justice โš–๏ธ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

Today we recognize the importance of justice, accountability, and the protection of human rights around the world. This day reminds us that fairness, dignity, and the rule of law are essential for peaceful and thriving societies.

International justice helps ensure that serious crimes do not go unanswered and that victims are heard, respected, and supported. It is a powerful step toward building a world where human rights are protected and everyone is treated with dignity.

As human rights advocate Irene Khan said,
โ€œThere can be no peace without justice and respect for human rights.โ€

Let us continue to stand for fairness, equality, and human dignity. Together, we can help create a world where justice strengthens peace and protects every person. โš–๏ธ๐Ÿค๐ŸŒฟ
