♻️ National Recycling Week | Fly-Tipping in Bidston & St James

Everything you see here was dumped across Bidston & St James in just days.

Fly-tipping isn’t just an eyesore. It costs taxpayers thousands to clear up, takes council resources away from other services, and leaves local people living with the mess.

Most of these items could have been disposed of responsibly:

♻️ Taken FREE to Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (household waste only – vans and trailers must be booked in advance).

🤝 Collected by a local charity.

🚛 Removed by a licensed waste carrier.

Whether someone dumped it themselves or paid an unlicensed person who fly-tipped it, the impact on our communities is exactly the same.

We’ve reported these incidents to Wirral Council and will continue pushing for action.

💚 Let’s keep Birkenhead clean this National Recycling Week.

🚧 Then ➜ Now | Brassey Street

On 20 August, we reported six issues on Brassey Street, from road condition and damaged railings to fly-tipping and worn road signs.

Today, it’s good to see road resurfacing underway.

We know these improvements take time, but it’s important they don’t get forgotten. Small issues can build up and make an area feel neglected.

💚 We’ll keep reporting problems, following up on them, and sharing progress across Bidston & St James.

📍 Cleveland Street, Birkenhead.
Where’s the care and maintenance?

🗣️This morning David Byrne, spoke with a council worker who was trimming back the overgrown bushes on Cleveland Street.

🌳 The trees has been left so long without any care, that it’s now damaging the pavement, with sections starting to lift.

💚 Regular maintenance helps prevent bigger problems and keeps our streets safer for everyone, that’s not been happening here for a long time.

📍We’ll keep reporting issues like this and pushing for the investment and upkeep our area deserves.

📍 Livingstone Street, Birkenhead

😳Dave has reported 21 nitrous oxide canisters, burnt furniture, TVs, a microwave, a DVLA wheel clamp, electronics and dumped household waste.

📈 Wirral Council recorded 7,977 fly-tipping incidents in 2024/25 – up 118% on the previous year.

⚖️ The last known successful fly-tipping prosecution in Birkenhead was in March 2022. Four years later, fly-tipping is getting worse and people rarely seem to be held accountable.

💚 Birkenhead deserves better.

🗣️Ben and Dave have been listening to residents and seeing local issues first-hand.

👀 We found fly-tipping, including 21 nitrous oxide canisters, burnt furniture, TVs, a door and a discarded DVLA wheel clamp, alongside damaged signs, faded road markings, and overgrown pathways.

🚌 Better buses are something Wirral residents have been asking for for years.

But the test will be whether people in communities like Bidston & St James see real change:

✅ buses that are reliable
✅ affordable fares
✅ better connections to jobs, shops and services
✅ routes that work for people who don’t have a car.
