We would like to sincerely thank the Biggar & Symington Explorer Scouts for helping clear up a serious mess left behind in a woodland area on the Estate on Sunday 3rd May.

After hearing explosions and seeing smoke coming from woods near the farm shop, we investigated and found four boys on bikes who had started a large fire that they did not know how to extinguish. Items from the Forest School, Cubs and Scouts boxes had been burned, and aerosol cans had been thrown onto the fire, which was what first alerted us to the incident.

With guidance and time, the boys eventually managed to put the fire out using plastic bags to carry water from a nearby burn and a small drinks bottle to sq**rt water onto the flames.

This could easily have become far more serious. As well as the risk of a wildfire, especially after the one we experienced at the same time last year, aerosol cans exploding in a fire could have caused severe injuries.

Please do speak to young people about the dangers of fires and flammable items in woodland areas, and about responsibly accessing and respecting the countryside we are so lucky to live in.

Thank you again to the Explorer Scouts for helping restore the area. Your help and support is very much appreciated.
