n you are doing everything you can to manage fire safety. He spent over 33 years working for the Fire Service, 8 of those as a Fire Service Trainer/Instructor, where he gained many training qualifications and the experience necessary to compile excellent training courses but also the skills in which to deliver the training content and material in an effective way. Most recently Ian was a Fire Safety Inspector and Building Control Liaison Officer for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Authority. Put simply he was at the forefront of investigating businesses, education establishments, shops, care facilities, landlords etc to ensure they complied with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and where he found failings it was his responsibility to enforce the order. To be an enforcement officer Ian gained extensive knowledge of the regulations governing fire safety. His knowledge and understanding of the regulations and how they should be implemented in practical terms makes him the ideal professional to assess your business, advise customers on all aspects of fire safety and train you and your staff.

Dukes Fire Safety provides numerous services around fire safety nationally across the UK and we pride ourselves on being a flexible, client focused organisation responding quickly and efficiently to our clients’ needs. Our aim is to work closely with our valued clients to ensure our service delivery is always exceptional.
Due to the nature of our business, we are looking for sub-contractor, qualified joiners who are competent in the trade but with a willingness to learn the specifics of joinery in a fire safety capacity. This will include learning how to be able to carry out repairs to fire doors, install fire door sets and complete fire door surveys in line with using BM Trada accepted repair techniques.
Essential Qualifications:
NVQ Level 2 or 3 Trade Qualification or equivalent recognised competency in the required trade.
Essential Skills:
Performing physical labour activities in a joinery capacity
Adhere to safety guidelines whilst on the job site
Ensure all specifications are met and completed within agreed timelines
Learning to use the appropriate materials in line with adhering to fire safety regulations
Understanding floor plans to locate doors and conduct site surveys
Conducting quality checks and reporting on works completed or work in progress, communication with internal and external stakeholders

Excellent knowledge and experience within the building services industry

Good practical skills, knowledge, building methods within the construction industry

Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and ability to work on own or part of a team. Along with being able to co-ordinate work and demonstrate professionalism, positivity and be proactive

Accuracy and attention to detail is essential

Willing to go the extra mile to provide high quality service in compliance with relevant procedures and legislation

Basic maths and literacy

Desirable Skills:

Experience of carrying out fire door inspections

Experience of carrying out fire door remedial works

Fire Door Inspector Qualifications

Knowledge of Fire Safety Regulations and guidance

Computer literate

Training can be provided in line with our company policies and will be around fire safety regulations, the specifics of installing fire doors, remedials works, surveys etc, which is required for the nature of our business.

As this is a subcontractor post, the hours and working days are varied dependent on workload but are typically Monday to Friday or odd weekend and evening work.

Initially you will be supervised until training has been provided, after which you will be responsible for installing fire doors (sets) and possibly some structural, partitions as well as making remedial repairs to existing fire door sets. Training around surveying fire doors will be provided once we are confident you can carry out all the above duties without supervision.

Salary
• £35,000 - £40,000* Full-time, Permanent.

How up to date is your fire training within your workplace?
We have thirty plus years’ experience and can train staff to have good knowledge and capabilities to deal with a workplace incident.
Training can be in small groups, teaching fire safety awareness, fire marshal skills, extinguisher use.
We can come to your place of work, set up a rig like below (facilities permitting), let you use an extinguisher and so you gain confidence knowing what you are doing is correct.
