Kidlington Detachment Formalises Affiliation with the Royal British Legion

On Wednesday 10 June 2026, Kidlington Detachment proudly formalised its Agreement of Affiliation with the Royal British Legion (RBL), marking the beginning of what promises to be a strong and enduring partnership between the two organisations.

SSgt Elise Butler, Detachment Commander, was joined by Deputy Lord-Lieutenant Ron Spurs, Bill Butcher of the Royal British Legion, Oxfordshire ACF Commandant Colonel Nathan Baigent, Deputy Commandant Lieutenant Colonel Sarah Oxford, Assistant Commandant Major Andrew McLennan, Quebec Company Commander Major Naomi Hood, Regimental Sergeant Major WO1 Anna Hordle, Company Sergeant Major WO2 Kayne Chambers-Blucher, and the cadets of Kidlington Detachment for the occasion.

This affiliation reflects the shared values of service, remembrance, and community spirit that unite both the Army Cadet Force and the Royal British Legion. Kidlington Detachment has long supported local remembrance events and the annual Poppy Appeal, making this partnership a natural progression of an already strong connection.

The ceremony concluded with refreshments and an opportunity for cadets, guests and supporters to celebrate this significant milestone together.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ What a proud moment for Oxfordshire ACF! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

On the 6th of June, our cadets represented the County as they took part in the D-Day commemorative parade in Normandy.

They have been exceptional ambassadors throughout the visit, conducting themselves with respect and confidence at every opportunity.

We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them. Well done to all cadets and CFAV

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Ex Ham 'N' Jam 26 πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

As we mark the anniversary of D-Day, a group of Oxfordshire ACF cadets are currently in Normandy on Exercise Ham 'N' Jam 26, following in the footsteps of those who fought for our freedom 82 years ago.

Led annually by Major Hames, this longstanding tour provides cadets with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in history, bringing to life the stories, sacrifices and achievements of those who served during the Battle of Normandy.

After a smooth crossing to France, the cadets have been exploring the historic landing beaches, visiting key battlefields and connecting with our County and The Rifles heritage at the world-famous Pegasus Bridge. Along the way, they've explored wartime bunkers, learned about life in occupied France and had the opportunity to see World War Two equipment up close.

Today, 82 years later, we are incredibly proud to have Oxfordshire cadets in Normandy, joining veterans' families and commemorating this pivotal moment in history. Today, our cadets will take part in the commemorative parade, ensuring the sacrifice, courage and legacy of those who served are never forgotten.

Lest We Forget.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ OXFORDSHIRE ACF REMEMBERS – D-DAY, 6 JUNE 1944

82 years ago today, Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy in one of the most significant military operations in history.

In the early hours of 6 June 1944, one of The Rifles' antecedent regiments, the 2nd Battalion Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, carried out the very first action of D-Day, several hours before the main landings began.

At 0015hrs, under the codename OPERATION DEADSTICK, five assault gliders landed with remarkable precision within 50 yards of Pegasus Bridge, achieving complete surprise.

Today, we remember the bravery, sacrifice and determination of all those who served on D-Day and throughout the Battle of Normandy.

Lest We Forget.

On Sunday 17 May, 18 cadets from Quebec Company attended the local Blenheim 7km Fun Run, providing support through course marshalling, manning a water station, and presenting finishers’ medals to participants.

The event, which raises awareness and support for a number of local charities including Sobell House Hospice Charity, provided an excellent opportunity for cadets to give back to the local community while demonstrating teamwork, professionalism, and community spirit.
