Next week the Town Council is meeting to discuss our response to the Governments Consultation on housing illegal immigrants at A site. As chair of the Town's planning committee (statutory consultee) I have drafted a response, and whilst I am prepared to accept some ammendments, the substantive letter that lists as many of the planning objections that I can gather, will be submitted by the deadline. We will also discuss funding the Judicial review into the Government's handling of the affair. Members of the public are able to talk on any item on the agenda. There are some limitations to public participation, but the Mayor may be prevailed upon to suspend standing orders to allow.

🚨 STANDING UP FOR BICESTER LEISURE CENTRE MEMBERS 🚨

Nick and I have sent a formal letter to Cherwell District Council demanding financial fairness for Bicester residents during the current leisure centre works. While we support the necessary electrical and roof upgrades, it is completely unfair that members are being billed 100% of their fees while losing access to the main pool, changing rooms, and showers. Expecting residents to use toilets in a car park welfare unit is a major degradation of service.

Furthermore, telling residents to travel 20-30 miles round-trip to Kidlington or Banbury is completely unrealistic for low-income families, elderly members, and those without private vehicles. Bicester residents should not be subsidising infrastructure upgrades with their own money. We are urging management to immediately implement:

1️⃣ A proportional direct debit reduction for the duration of the closures.

2️⃣ An immediate, backdated "freeze" option for members unable to travel elsewhere.

Our residents deserve financial fairness from their local authority.

The Government has decided that Oxfordshire should be re-arranged into three unitary authorities. Residents of Bicester will note that the boundary of Greater Oxford comes right to the border of the town encompassing Wendlebury. Cherwell's preferred option was for two unitary authorities. Bicester will be part of the new Northern Oxfordshire Council which replaces Cherwell District Council and Oxfordshire County Council (also West Oxfordshire District Council). Bicester Town Council is not affected by these changes, but is expecting that the new authority will want to divest itself of certain responsibilities down to Parish level. We await to see what kind of Thames Valley Mayoral Authority will be created to overlay the Parish and new unitary authorities.

I was interviewed on GBNews. I got most of my points across. We need to use all legal and democratic means to persuade the Government that Bicester is the wrong place for an asylum centre.
Speaking only as me, I would leave the ECHR, bring back the Rwanda scheme, remove the factors that create a pull on illegal migration to the UK, speed up the processing of asylum applications, but on the other hand I am proud of this country's reception of genuine refugees, such as those fleeing Putin's aggression in Ukraine, and those who risked their lives supporting our forces in Afghanistan and the Middle East. History tells us that discrimination against Jews made it difficult for them to escape N**i persecution as countries would not accept them. Whilst we want to secure our borders, it must never be at the expense of those genuinely and legally requesting sanctuary.

We are pleased to highlight Bicester Town Councils ongoing commitment to public safety through the installation of defibrillators at key locations across Bicester.

These vital devices are designed to be used in medical emergencies when someone experiences a sudden cardiac arrest. Quick access to a defibrillator, combined with CPR, can significantly increase a person's chances of survival while waiting for emergency services to arrive.

Although fortunately they are not required very often, they have been used to help members of our Bicester community, demonstrating just how important it is to have this lifesaving equipment readily available.

If you witness a cardiac emergency, call 999 immediately. The operator can direct you to the nearest defibrillator and guide you through the steps needed until help arrives.

Update on Pioneer Square toilets. Officers at Cherwell have claimed "a miscommunication," lead to the closure sign being put up. The decision at Full Council, which I voted against, to close the toilets stands, however they have been given a reprieve until the Bicester Area Oversight group convenes at some point in the future to decide if it will allocate some of it's budget to keep the toilets open. I urge the LibDems to do the right thing and vote funds to keep the toilets open.
