Recently, we had this young Mallard arrive .

Sadly, she had a damaged tendon in her leg, which at first she could not use, and had become deformed; therefore, she could not be released. Rather than kill her, we decided to contact Sally's Duck Rescue who have helped us in the past. She was allowed a daily swim, and her leg strengthened, but she needed a permanent home.

On Sunday, Chris and a volunteer drove her down to Sally's Duck Rescue in Norfolk, as they specialise in rescuing disabled ducks. Thank you to Sally and Tim for all the amazing work they do with over 300 ducks on their sanctuary.

The previous post was removed by Chris, as he and the volunteers are so upset about what the neighbour did (see previous posts) and he just felt no one cared.
On a happier note, please meet Lida Beda Boda Butt! Yes, it is a mouthful, but it definitely suits him. This baby squirrel was brought in to the rescue after being attacked by magpies.
When he arrived, he was in pain and shock, and we were thinking the kindest thing would be to have him PTS, but one of our volunteers said they would give him a chance.
He has been closely monitored day and night, with appropriate care and medication provided.
He is now up and about, exploring his temporary surroundings, eating and drinking.
He is well on the way to recovery and will eventually move on to a forever home.

THE FOX CUB AND THE GULLS DIED BECAUSE OF YOU, ALL OF US HUMANS.

PLEASE be aware that the photos are upsetting, so DO NOT look at them if you do not wish to. We added them as this is what Chris deals with regularly, but you can just read the post)

The last post received over 2,000 'likes', but we NEVER do posts to get support. A few of us contributed to this post, but it is largely written by Chris.

First, the last 2 posts were about the squirrel killer at the back of our property. We ONLY closed commenting as we could not keep up with replying and monitoring comments, over 700.

The post was not about the Greys against the Reds, as there were no Reds here. However, when l mentioned that Reds were exterminated by Humans, so many people (obviously uneducated) put comments up saying l was lying or did not know what l was on about and equally unintelligent people 'liked' these comments. We left the negative comments up, so check for yourself.

I know the facts, look them up, since the 1800s, red squirrels were exterminated, almost to extinction, before Grey squirrels were even here. In fact, there were clubs set up to hunt Red squirrels. The Highland club alone killed over 100,000; look it up for yourself. It amazes me how people who want to defend animal abuse are so ignorant of the facts. It is ALL there on the internet, it's shocking, Reds were mass murdered as they were deemed a pest.

The evil, disgusting man behind us still has his traps out, so l will say something here. He was overheard on Monday moaning about Foxes coming into his garden with his astro turf; foxes have dens in ours and the neighbours' gardens.

If l see any live or dead squirrels in his traps, l intend to go and smash them up. We have arranged cover now if l should get arrested. I do not care if l go to prison, the law is wrong, and l adore the squirrels here, they have a soul and are my equals. I am not doing it to get support, I'm doing it for me, and if you don't understand that, we appreciate that everyone is entitled to their opinion as long as their view does not include hurting others
,
That brings me to this post: people are going on about Red versus Grey squirrels, the world is burning up, we are destroying our planet, and soon there will be NOWHERE for any wildlife.

The fox cub died. She took shelter in a summerhouse in someone's garden and was severely dehydrated. I gave her rehydration, but she died on the way to WRAS.
The poor seagull chicks died almost as soon as l picked them up, fried in the heat. Imagine being on a roof with no shade. Herring gull chicks have evolved to live on the cool beach, hence their colouring.

The adult gull photos are of 2 gulls caught in fishing hooks, both entangled together. PLEASE DO NOT justify fishing, it is cruel and barbaric to have a hook in any animal's mouth, fish feel extensive pain as proved by the Medway report.

Due to the extreme temperatures, please ensure there is water out for all wildlife in a shallow dish.

SQUIRREL KILLER UPDATE.

*****A little extra, there is a debate about red and grey squirrels in the comments. There are also comments about invasive species; humans hunted red squirrels to near extinction, the Highland club alone killed 100 thousand a year. Just Google it, look it up, red squirrels were killed by their millions before grey squirrels were ever introduced, as they damaged trees planted by the Forestry Commission. JUST type in-'Did humans once kill Red squirrels in the UK?'
***********************************************************************

Thank you for all the support for our last post. We have found out a lot more about what has happened, not just to our squirrels but also to other local wildlife at the hands of this evil man. However, first, please see the photos, these are squirrels we have rescued this year, the animals the RSPCA, the Police and sadly, many other rescues are unable to help. We help any animal, regardless of what the law says; there is no higher law than protecting all life.

It has been a very sad and strange time here. The trees, once bouncing with squirrels, are now empty; the owls in the tree behind this evil man's bungalow (directly behind our rescue) are gone; the pigeons we released here are slowly diminishing in number; and there is a sad stillness here.

When the bungows were built about 7 years ago ALL those interested in purchasing them were given a letter informing them that they were an animal sanctuary adjacent to their properties and to be respectful of that fact. We have a letter from the developers confirming this fact.

We are not sure how long this disgusting man, who lives behind us, has been killing wildlife; we estimate he started about 4 years ago.
About 5 years ago, we were told someone was complaining about our baby gulls. The gull enclosures were opened; there was mud on the top of the fence backing onto this man's property, indicating someone had climbed over. Other enclosures were opened, but luckily, no animals were killed.
This is not the same incident we mentioned a few years ago when someone came through the neighbour's garden opening enclosures.

Someone who knows this man and occasionally visits him said the squirrels were caught by their legs in his traps, and he beat them to death. Imagine having your arm, hand or fingers caught in a car door, the pain you would suffer.
These poor squirrels trusted humans; they nested next door as the man there put up squirrel nesting boxes, and other neighbours fed them.

The police and RSPCA so far have refused to act. It is illegal to set squirrel traps if there are no safeguards to ensure that other wildlife do not get caught. His traps are clearly set so that other wildlife is at risk.
The police and the RSPCA say they can not act because it is legal. The police are there to enforce any law, regardless of the morality of that law; sometimes, they should make the right moral choice.
People complain about squirrels whilst thousands of species of animals and plants face extinction, the planet is being destroyed, not by squirrels, but by humans.

We believe that if you see ANY trap designed to catch any animal to kill them, even on someone's property, it is morally right to destroy it. Some years ago, we posted a video of us releasing Magpies from a Larson trap and smashing the trap up. These magpies would have suffered the fear and distress of being murdered. We have destroyed numerous traps, including those used to kill badgers. If you see any trap anywhere, even if an animal has already been killed in it, please do the right thing: DESTROY IT.
We are not sure what action we will take, or even what the future holds for the rescues now. We have been exceptionally busy and will do updates soon.

However, please note: although we will take in baby squirrels, often only an hour after arriving here, and transport them to 'safe' houses where they are hand-raised. From there, they go elsewhere and then have a life free, happily, safe on private land. One person who accepts squirrels has over 40 acres and feeds wild squirrels.

Finally, the law DOES NOT say rescue centres can not admit squirrels, only not to release them. It is awful that so many rescues will not even help squirrels, even those trapped and in need of rescuing. The RSPCA at Mallydams will euthanise all squirrels admitted, including defenceless baby ones, so please call us for any help or advice regarding squirrels.

SORRY- HERE IS ANOTHER CALL OUT TO SEE IF ANYONE CAN HELP.

UPDATE: Amy has just taken the ducklings to East Sussex WRAS (see comments). Sadly, there was no option but to remove the ducklings; if left on a flat roof, they would have either fallen to their deaths or died in the heat, as there was no water or shade. We did place them with the mum in a nearby courtyard, but she flew off and never returned. It was a sad situation, but if left on the roof or alone in a nearby courtyard, they would have perished.

We are working almost non-stop. Chris has just been out for almost 3 hours on a rescue. Some ducklings were on a hospital flat roof and were going to fall off.
Despite attempts to reunite them with their mum, these were unsuccessful. If left where they were, the ducklings would have fallen to their deaths, and the fire service was called to climb up and rescue them.

WE URGENTLY need someone to go to East Sussex WRAS in Whitesmith with them to join their ducklings and to be checked over by their casualty staff. WRAS help us where they can, but all of us are extremely busy at present.

We will pay expenses. If you can help, please leave a comment here so others know someone is helping, and ring me ASAP on 07837958109. Thank you
Admin.

CAN ANYONE HELP URGENTLY?

GREAT NEWS...SOMEONE HAS OFFERED TO HELP!! We will leave this up anyway... thank you to those who offered to help.

We are aiming to do an update on the Squirrel killer tomorrow. 9see post below)However, life goes on, and the rescue is getting animals in constantly.

We have just had this young owl in, an injured herring gull and an injured woodpigeon. The gull has been shot with a pellet, so needs to go to Wras for an X-ray at their casualty centre.
We can feed the owl (we have dead chicks); however, East Sussex WRAS asked if we could get her and the other animals to their casualty centre in Whitesmith. We will cover the expense.
Can anyone help? Wras are really busy. If anyone can help transport these animals asap, please ring or text us on 07837958109

PLEASE SHARE THIS POST TO ANY SQUIRRELL/WILDLIFE PAGES. Urban Squirrels.

***We will be doing an update on this page within the next few days.***

If you live on Rafati Way or in the areas around this road, including Chantry Avenue, you should all read this.

It was a very depressing day yesterday, for years not just us at the rescue, but neighbours have been wondering where all the grey squirrels have gone, many we released whilst it was still legal to do so.
Sadly, the law now says you can no longer release Grey squirrels; we no longer do so.
The first photo is of a young grey squirrel we reared and who was soft released by us, and for years, local children would love seeing her and offering her food. The squirrels harmed NO ONE. Suddenly, she disappeared along with the other squirrels. The neighbours on both sides love all wildlife, and on one side, they even built squirrel nesting boxes.

However is NOT just squirrels that are disappearing; there used to be owls in the big Oak tree (in a photo), which have all gone, and wild birds are also rapidly disappearing.

Yesterday, we had some shocking news, which left many of us devastated. We were told by one of the neighbours that they heard a man behind us discussing how he had been killing squirrels and shooting wildlife. This individual backs right up to our rescue, the massive oak tree in the rescue's garden, backs onto his garden. Some of you may not know that Chris was offered a huge sum of money, around £30,000, to allow the oak tree to be cut down during work on the bungalows, but he refused.

There is a photo of the trap in this man's garden on the fence. He is a disgusting, evil man. The squirrels used to run gayily along the fence, play in the gardens, rear young, and this individual is responsible for we estimate killing around 20 of them. When Chris looked over, he saw not only this trap but also others on the ground, and what looked like an injured blackbird.

He went round to rescue the blackbird and called the police as he was assaulted; he has bruising on his face. The police were called, but did not arrest the man, even though the call handler recorded him swearing and threatening Chris. By the time the police arrived, the blackbird had mysteriously disappeared, as had the other traps; the one on the fence is still there. This individual lives at the end of Raffati Way.

People in that cul-de-sac hear him regularly running his leaf blower for up to 4 hours or more to scare wildlife away. He has made it clear to us he hates wildlife, and wants the oak tree cut down as leaves go all over his astro turf
For us, what is depressing is how one man can be responsible for so much death. Squirrels are amazing individuals, intelligent, playful and harm no one, although as seen in a press cutting, they are now persecuted relentlessly.

Before anyone mentions the demise of the Red squirrel, we suggest you read your facts. Red squirrels were hunted mercilessly, the government offering a shilling a tail. We have a book which outlines how thousands were killed right up to the 1950's.

No animal is vermin except maybe us; we demonise other animals rather than look at the mass extinction going on. The police were polite and friendly, but they would not even ask the man to remove the trap, even though it is very clear that old wildlife can be caught in it WHICH IS ILLEGAL.

If you see a trap anywhere designed to catch any animal, we urge you to think of the morality of leaving that trap to harm other fellow animals, as Sir David Attenborough made clear, we are all animals sharing this planet.

Chris told the police he WOULD destroy the trap if it was attached to his side of the fence. Sadly, it is attached to his neighbour's side.

There is a book we have included in this post which dispels the myth concerning many so-called invasive species, for example, the Grey Squirrel bury acorns, which help to plant more trees.

PLEASE share this post. Until this man stops killing wildlife, we can no longer release any more animals on site, and we are deeply concerned not for the squirrels (although it seems he has killed them all) but for all the other animals that live in our newly created wildlife habitats.

URGENT
Would anyone be able to help by dropping a fox cub to East Sussex WRAS? Chris will be back at the rescue by 6.15 he does have to attend another rescue. We can help towards the travel costs.
Please leave a message here BUT also please message Chris on mobile.
Thank you admin.

CAN ANYONE HELP?

We know it is late, but can anyone take a badly injured Gull to St. Anne's Vets in Eastbourne? Chris is open all night and has to wait in for several wildlife casualties on the way. We will cover costs.

If you can help, please ring or text on 07837958109

UPDATE- The injured gull is now on the way to the vets, Jess Hall offered (see comments). We are open all night to take in casualties, but you MUST ring or text us first. PLEASE do not just turn up. Another fledgling bird is on the way in. We have medication here and feed stocks to care for all wildlife that we admit. We are aiming to do a post soon on some of the late-night casualties we admitted.

Chris recently received a phone call about a fox cub stuck between a wall and a fence in Hastings. Chris attended, and with the help of a builder, they managed to cut the fence away to gain access to the cub.
The cub was taken back to the rescue, where she was collected by East Sussex WRAS for assessment by the vet team and treatment of any injuries.
Thank you to the lady who called and the builder for their help. As always to WRAS for the ongoing support.
