The Parish Council has been made aware of the following update on Spark Mill Lane - public right of way Flemingate to Peters Way - __________________________________

As you know, East Riding of Yorkshire Council is proposing several improvements to a section of Spark Mill Lane public right of way between Flemingate and Peters Way (points A-B on the plan).

Please find revised plan attached and detailed description below of works being carried out by ERYC.

Residents and businesses in the area will shortly receive a postcard-style consultation letter on the proposals summarised below to give them opportunity to see the proposals in full and provide their support or comments.

It is anticipated that the works would be carried out later this year. We are currently awaiting further detail from adjacent developers in order to co-ordinate our works and theirs. As part of developers’ works, a new pipe connection is being installed which will cross Spark Mill Lane. Therefore, we need to wait until this pipe crossing is installed before we commence our surfacing works on the public right of way.

Residents and businesses residing closest to the scheme would receive a further letter nearer the time with details of the start date of our resurfacing works, duration and traffic management anticipated.

The proposals are designed to improve connectivity between Flemingate and Peters Way along Spark Mill Lane for use by both pedestrians and cyclists, following requests from Councillors and residents.

The proposed works include:

• Tarmacking the surface of the existing stoned section between Beverley Parklands and Peters Way;
• Resurfacing the section of tarmac lane between Flemingate and Beverley Parklands;
• Adding cycle rights to the public right of way between points A-B.
• Add removable bollards in 3 locations as shown on the revised plan;
• Add 2 bins along the route (exact locations to be determined).
• Footway lighting between points A-B (recently installed to utilise developer funding).
• The Council would look to adopt section A-B to enable the Council to take on the future maintenance of the proposed surfacing and other street furniture.

Fire & Rescue Service
A Check That Could Save a Life

Dear Andrew

During Carers Week, we’re recognising the vital role carers play in keeping loved ones safe and highlighting how important home safety checks can be in preventing serious incidents.

A working smoke alarm on every floor can double the chances of surviving a fire. We’re encouraging everyone to take a few moments to test their alarms to make sure they are working and sounding properly and, where possible, to support relatives, friends or neighbours who may appreciate help checking theirs.

Sarah Wilkinson, Head of Prevention, said:
“Carers do an incredible job supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. Taking a few minutes to check that smoke alarms are working during a visit is a simple step that can make a life-saving difference. It’s a small action that offers real peace of mind.”

As your local fire service, we offer home fire safety advice. You can also use the links below to find out more and check if you’re eligible for a free Home Fire Safety Visit.

Woodmansey Parish Council's Community Grant continues to support our local community

At our Monday Parish Council meeting our Parish Cllrs were pleased to meet the Woodmansey branch of the Beverley and Hornsea Scout Group and present them with a cheque to support the purchase of an outdoor equipment shed. When asked how much did the scouts think the cheque was for, one bright future leader of industry said "hope it is a million pounds". The Parish Council cannot quite stretch to this sum but we hope the £500 grant will go some way to helping the group get their outdoor storage

At the meeting, Cllrs also agreed to award from the Community Grant, £500 respectively to Woodmansey Primary, to support a residential trip for pupils and Keldmarsh for bike and pedestrian training.

Do you know a teenager interested in Policing?
Applications for the Volunteer Police Cadets are now open!

Young people aged 15 - 16 can get a head start on a career in policing by joining the Volunteer Police Cadets (VPC).

The VPC offers a unique opportunity to learn about all areas of policing, receiving training and inputs from officers and staff across the force. Cadets get up to all sorts from visiting specialist departments such as the Force Control Room to engaging in real policing operations like Operation MakeSafe, an initiative raising awareness about child exploitation and engaging with local communities.

There have been many cadets who have gone on to join the force as an officer or member of staff, joining as a cadet is a great way to get a taste of policing and help you understand a career in policing is for you.

Please share this with a young person you know who may be interested in applying! We currently run six cadet units across our area which can be seen below.
