Grace's mobility is improving very rapidly now - it's incredible what a combination of her resilience and tenacity, a physio regime (thank you to those who are supporting her and teaching me), my care, and time can do.

The more mobile she gets, the more her personality shines through. She's a cheeky little button, that's for sure.

I took Echo out for some fresh air today too (see earlier Maeve reel).

As well as being good for vitamin D production, and for his general wellbeing to take in some natural outdoor sights and sounds, he's also reached his 'branching' stage of development. This is where they climb out onto branches near the nest to practice balance and to use their wings a bit. He's even showing signs of being ready to fledge, in his choice to flap down from my arm again. All looking very good 😊

You may have seen my earlier post about Maeve and her run - here is the video I promised.

She was understandably very keen (she's a smart girl) to work out how to sample even more freedom than the run allows, but I managed to keep her busy enough. Very good for topping up her vitamin D production, too.

I promised to get the run for Maeve (that many of you paid for) built as soon as there was a dry day, and so I did 🙂.

Being Maeve, she was very quick to work out her potential exits and even rolled her play tube towards the edge so she could jump from there. Clever girl. I managed to stop her, but that's why I can't give her more stuff to play with in there - she'll just use them to break out 😆.

Joking aside, I can't blame her as this is a poor plan b to getting her back in her enclosure. I really hope we can get there soon.

I will share a video when I have some more time later.

My biggest fear for Grace, after we got her through the initial life-threatening phase straight after rescue, was that she wouldn't regain enough mobility for a good quality of life. However much I want to save them all, I won't keep them if they can't have that.

This is her after only one month of rehab. I'm delighted for her, and I know she's a bit wobbly but she's going to get a whole lot better with more time and more care. And lots of 'squisiotherapy' of course 😊

Echo is now having Pulsed Electromagnetic Frequency (PEMF) therapy as part of his rehabilitation.

He continues to be more interested in food than anything else, though. His personality is really starting to come through, too, now that he's feeling better and stronger. Also as he's growing up, from a nestling to a fledgling.

Good job she's cute. Squirrel farts are quite cute too, to be fair, until they reach your nose.

Due to the success of the current fundraiser (thank you!), I was asked to do an interview for the local media.

It brings the trolls out, or course, but I expect that. As a psychologist it gives me valuable data on how disconnected many people are from compassion, and how easily led by simplistic cultural narratives - e.g. 'grey squirrels are bad'. Very useful for my current research - so I just thank them for contributing by commenting on a public page 🙂.

Big day for Winnie (front) and Cali - moving in with each other, and outside, at the same time. They've been in cages next to each other for a few days, and there was no sign of agitation, so I didn't want to keep them inside any longer.

I hope this life will be a good enough 'plan b' for them, given they couldn't be released - they only have one eye each.

Echo is standing by himself now 🎉. He couldn't support his own weight until this past couple of days.

This means that once his second foot is realigned (which should hopefully only take about another week), he will be able to perch 😊. He will be much happier when he can do that, as his instincts to do so have kicked in and he's a bit frustrated. It'll also stop him from constantly sitting down in his own p**p 💩💩🙄. Neither of us enjoy me bathing him, so I think we'll both be happy when that phase is over 🛁
