Berwick Blue Watch and Retained crew took part in a Road Traffic Collision exercise on Thursday night. The scenario was a mini bus full of children involved in a collision with a car. Crew were required to complete a 10 second triage of the minibus casualties and then move onto releasing the casualties from the car.

Our fantastic fire cadets assisted as live casualties on the mini bus and really got involved by acting out their injuries. We were also joined by Seahouses Community Fire Station who acted as our 2nd appliance in attendance.

Huge thank you to Borders Buses for providing the bus!!

Completing exercises like this ensures that our crews are ready for action at a moments notice!

Berwick retained crew were called out today to assist Eyemouth Coastguard with the rescue of a casualty from the deck of a boat located in a dry dock.

3 of the crew left their place of work to assist with the rescue and were committed for just under 3 hours.

A massive thank you to Longridge Towers School, Michael Guthrie Developments LTD & Michael Guthrie Storage Containers and RJ Eden and Sons Ltd for their continued support by allowing their employees to leave work and support our community

Berwicks retained crew all have full time jobs and make their way to the station as soon as they safely can, when our pagers activate.

Training for the crew happens every Thursday night and it’s unheard of to have every single member of the crew there as many of us work shifts or have family commitments to take care of.

Well last night all 14 of us were on station and it was too good an opportunity to miss!

Last week Berwick Blues were involved in an incident where they required the help of Berwick Animal Rescue Kennels. Today the crew popped in to say hello and hand in some vouchers for this great organisation. Thank you for having us!!

Blue Watch - Berwick Community Fire Station Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service played a vital role in the recent intake of the dogs, including little Poppet and getting them to safety. All the dogs clearly made quite an impression on them and they popped in yesterday to check on how they were doing (and get a few cuddles) and today they returned for more cuddles and dropped in a very generous voucher we can use at Direct Pets - Berwick Upon Tweed. We'll be picking up a few more harnesses/coats and jumpers along with a few special treats.

We feel more than a bit humbled to be supported by our amazing Fire and Rescue Service.

Last year Crew Manager Graeme Cain approached Simpsons Malt Limited to see if their charitable arm would be kind enough to support a new facility for our Fire Cadets. We were delighted when they agreed to not only support a facility but to go 50:50 with the service!

Our Cadets now have the luxury of a brand new portacabin providing toilets, changing rooms and a safe place for them to learn about being a firefighter and chatting with instructors.

Have a look at the video where Graeme, who works for Simpson Malt Ltd but gives up his spare time to work as a retained Crew Manager and Cadet Instructor, explains how the new facility is helping support the young people of Berwick.

Huge thank you to Simpsons Malt Ltd for their very kind gesture and support! πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸš’πŸš’

With the low autumnal sun and clear skies this week, we’ve had 2 house fires which have been the result of sun light reflecting off mirrors and setting fire to objects in the room.

Our fire safety advice is:

Keep magnifying mirrors out of direct sunlight.
Never put glass ornaments or paperweights on window sills.

Never place glass ornaments or paperweights in direct sunlight.

Make sure shaving or vanity mirrors are not left on window sills.

Be aware of objects in your home such as shaving or vanity mirrors, glass ornaments or paperweights that may be exposed to direct sunlight.

The picture attached is from a fire which Berwick Retained and Blues attended in Spittal yesterday and shows how strong the reflecting light can be
