Today, the spotlight shines on the beautiful laburnum, currently stealing the show as it drapes and creeps gracefully over the pathway leading up to the castle.

Often called the ‘golden chain tree’, the laburnum is best known for its cascading yellow flower racemes that hang like sunlight caught in motion.

At this time of year, it transforms the walk towards the castle into something almost storybook-like, a glowing archway of gold that sways gently overhead as you pass beneath it.

It’s a perfect reminder of how nature and history intertwine here at Belsay, where the landscape itself becomes part of the experience of visiting the castle.

If you’re planning a visit, take a moment to pause under the laburnum and look up, it’s one of those fleeting seasonal displays that makes this place so special. 🌼
