This page is designed as a place to discuss Belsay Hall, Castle & Gardens- to share tips for a great day out at the castle, upcoming events and news from the property. We love hearing the ideas and opinions of our social community, and encourage you to leave comments, photos, videos and links (‘content’) here on our page. However, in the interests of our whole community, by using this site you accept our ‘house rules’ and agree that any content posted by you on our page will follow these rules. Enjoy live music in the beautiful surroundings of Belsay Hall. It’s the perfect excuse to spend a Sunday exploring the estate, soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying some fantastic music.

Performances: 11:30am, 1pm & 3pm

There is still time to enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Belsay Hall, exploring the locations featured in the Belsay book. The experience also includes a delicious bacon stottie.

The tour costs £10 per person, in addition to standard admission to Belsay Hall.

🎶 Sunday Music at Belsay Hall 🎶

This Sunday, 6th September, we’re delighted to welcome The Honeybirds Jazz Quartet to Belsay Hall!

Come and enjoy some live jazz in the beautiful surroundings of Belsay.

Bring a chair or blanket, enjoy a wander around the grounds and make a lovely afternoon of it.

At Belsay Castle, every doorway and window tells part of the story.

From narrow medieval openings designed for defence to the grand Gothic-style windows added centuries later, the castle’s changing architecture reflects how Belsay evolved from fortress to family home.

Some windows once framed views across the Northumberland landscape for generations of the Middleton family, while others were built to bring more light, comfort and elegance into the castle’s rooms as tastes changed over time.

Today, wandering through the ruins, you can still trace those layers of history in the stonework, from weathered arches and hidden corners ,to doorways that have welcomed visitors for hundreds of years.

Next time you visit, take a closer look at the details above and around you, the windows and doorways of Belsay have seen centuries pass by.

The gardens at Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens are a place of constant change, care, and quiet dedication. They’re shaped not only by time and nature, but by the people who look after them day in, day out.

A huge thank you goes to the skilled gardeners and dedicated volunteers who work behind the scenes to keep this landscape thriving. From carefully maintaining historic planting schemes to encouraging wildlife-friendly spaces and managing the ever-evolving quarry gardens, their work is both practical and deeply creative.

Next time you wander through the grounds, take a second to appreciate not just the beauty around you, but the care that makes it possible. 🌱
