After another crash and road closure on Holly Lane, Councillor Rachael Hatchett is calling for stronger safety measures in Ambergate.

Earlier this year, a vehicle crashed into the bridge, forcing long diversions for residents and businesses. Rachael pushed the council for quick repairs due to the major disruption caused to local people, and the road reopened ahead of schedule.

But just weeks later, another crash caused more damage and disruption. Rachael is now backing clearer signage and a crash barrier to help prevent further accidents and protect taxpayers from repeated repair costs.

♻️ This , give it a second life

Before you replace it… could you repair it?

We’ve all got those items at home sitting on a “to fix” pile. A wobbly chair, a torn jacket, a toaster that’s given up. But across Amber Valley, local repair cafés are helping bring those items back to life.

🛠️ At a repair café, you can:
- Bring along small household items, clothes or gadgets
- Get help from volunteers to fix them
- Pick up a few handy skills along the way

Many sessions also include stalls, talks, crafts or even clothes swaps, so you can really make a morning or afternoon of it. It’s always worth checking their websites to see what’s on.

Here are a few you can visit locally:
📍Crich – Share & Repair Café (run by Transition Crich)
https://www.transitioncrich.co.uk/share-and-repair-cafe/

📍 Belper – Repair Café (hosted by Transition Belper)
https://www.transitionbelper.org/project/repair-cafe/

📍 Quarndon – Repair Café (supported by Quarndon Parish Council)
https://www.quarndon-pc.gov.uk/repair-cafe

📍 Duffield – Repair Café (supported by St. Alkmund’s Parish Church)
https://stalkmundsduffield.co.uk/home-2/church-life/midweekother/repair-cafe/

Every year, large amounts of repairable items end up in general waste. Choosing to repair instead of replace can help to:
- Reduce waste going to landfill.
- Cut carbon emissions linked to manufacturing new products.
- Save your money on replacements.
- Build practical skills and confidence.

So next time something breaks, take a moment… could it be fixed instead?

🦋 Turning Developer Funding into Wildlife Recovery🌳

🏠Since 2024, planning applications have been required to demonstrate a 10% increase in on-site biodiversity for new developments.

Where this can’t be achieved on site, developers can fund biodiversity improvements elsewhere.

🌳A few years ago, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust purchased Common Farm in Nether Heage and is now using these developer contributions to rewild the land, expand woodland, and create richer habitats for wildlife.🐝

🌱Green borough councillor Alison McDermott and Green county councillor Rachael Hatchett recently joined Amber Valley Borough Council staff and other councillors on a tour of the site to explore how access to this fantastic space could be improved and opened up for more people to enjoy.🌳🌱

🚨 The number of people killed or seriously injured on Derbyshire’s roads is rising every year — and we are nowhere near meeting our safety targets.

But there’s a solution.

Where 20mph zones have been introduced in Derbyshire, collisions have fallen by almost 60%. The only problem with this is no 20mph zones have been introduced since 2016.

Speeding is the issue residents raise most with Green councillors. People want safer streets for children, cyclists, pedestrians and drivers alike.

That’s why the Greens are calling on Derbyshire County Council to introduce 20mph limits where they’re needed and where residents support them. Gloucestershire, for example are already consulting residents on new 20mph zones. Derbyshire should be too.

Is there a road near you where speeding is problem? Would reducing the speed limit make it safer? Let us know what you think.

Safer roads save lives. Help the Greens make it happen. 💚
