A UNESCO world heritage site, Strutt’s North Mill is the birthplace of the industrial revolution, bringing with it one of the world’s first iron clad “fireproof” buildings and revolution at every turn. ry and melancholic, the mill is a must visit piece of world history. This building was built following the destruction of the original mill by fire in 1803, today it stands as a monument to the ingenuity of the time, considerable thought has been given to its construction and the building is Grade I listed due to its pioneering architecture. Our collection features multiple priceless artifacts and working mill machines that are 200 years old, supported by the Derwent Valley Mills trust and a very strong group of volunteers we’re proud to represent our heritage and remain to this day a pillar of the Belper community, in addition to the museum the mill also hosts multiple events throughout the year. As part of Belper 250, there's a very interesting exhibition at Belper Library this month 'The Strutt Family: Global Cotton Connections'. If you haven't had chance to see it, it's on until 26th September.

There's less than a week to go until our Open Day! Come along on Sunday 13th September from 11am until 3pm to discover all about working life at the mill. Join in traditional craft activities, hear mini talks by our knowledgeable guides and watch folk dancing group Folk Frenzy! It's free entry too!

There are just two talks left this year, 'Accidents at the Strutt Mills' at The Cycle Service on 27th September at 6.30pm, and 'Life as an 1805 Millworker' at No.28 on 25th October at 6pm. Tickets cost £6 plus a small booking fee and can be booked via our website www.belpernorthmill.org.uk/calendar.

We've just been looking through the lovely balloon messages for Jedediah's 300th birthday and Belper 250 celebrations that were decorated at our stall at the Love Belper festival. There are some talented artists out there!

We'll be displaying these in the North Mill at our open day on Sunday 13th September, where you can talk to costumed guides, see spinning demonstrations and have a go crafts. Join us for this free event from 11am until 3pm.

There's less than a week to go until our Milford Trespassers talk at No.28 on Sunday at 6pm.

The talk delves into the Notebook kept by the nightwatchman in the 1830s which shows a fascinating and detailed picture of a different side of life in the village of Milford.

Tickets for 'Getting Crabs, Throwing Stones and Other Offences: 19th Century Trespassers in Milford' by Jane Whitaker on Sunday 30th August at 6pm are £6 and can be purchased online via our website (small booking fee applies), or if there are tickets remaining on the day you can pay on the door.

It's almost the weekend again, which means Mill tours!!

Join us on Saturday at 11am or 1.30pm for a 'Strutt Around the Mills' to discover the fascinating history of this revolutionary mill complex in the heart of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.

Due to the popularity of Trevor's talk on 'Accidents at the Strutt Mills' earlier this year, he's been invited to the Cycle Service in Belper to come and give this talk on the 27th September at 6.30pm. Taken from the Strutt’s own accident book and contemporary newspaper reports, the talk delves into the facts and figures of the risks of working at the mills and how legislation affected working practices. You may be surprised by some of the findings!

As a smaller venue, tickets are limited, so if you missed out last time, be sure to book soon to avoid disappointment. Head to our website www.belpernorthmill.org.uk/calendar to secure your place. Tickets are £6 plus a small booking fee.
