🚔 Operation Sceptre | Working Together to Keep Our Community Safe 🔪
Yesterday, local officers for Belper carried out proactive work as part of Operation Sceptre, the national week of action tackling knife crime, PCSO Barnes and team have teamed up with Safe and Sound; a Derbyshire-based charity working to protect children and young people from exploitation, including the risks linked to knife crime and serious violence. By raising awareness and offering tailored support, they help young people make safer choices and build resilience.
Working in partnership with the local Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) in Belper, Safe and Sound supports community engagement, prevention initiatives, and early intervention. This collaboration helps strengthen local safeguarding efforts, ensuring young people and families have access to guidance, support, and a visible police presence focused on keeping the community safe.
As part of today’s activity:
• ✅ A knife amnesty was held, giving members of the public an opportunity to safely dispose of knives.
• 💬 One particularly sentimental knife was surrendered, showing a powerful commitment from the owner to prioritise community safety over personal attachment.
• 🏬 PCSOs have been visiting local businesses, offering advice and ensuring retailers are aware of their responsibilities around the safe and responsible sale of knives.
And in true British fashion… 🌦️
Our officers have taken it all in their stride despite some very “indecisive” weather today — from heavy rain, to sunshine, and straight back to rain again! - both photos taken minutes apart… Safe to say, we’ve experienced all four seasons in the space of a single shift, but it hasn’t stopped us getting the job done. 🚓☔🌞
We thank everyone who engaged with us today. Every knife taken off the streets and every conversation held helps make our communities safer.
If you have any concerns about knife crime or would like advice, please speak to your local officers.
