👮‍♂️ Local Officers Out and About At Heage Windmill 🌿

Our local officers recently paid a visit to the historic Heage Windmill, where they had the chance to speak with both staff and visitors.

It was a great opportunity to engage with the community, hear feedback, and enjoy one of our area’s fantastic landmarks.

If you see us out and about, don’t hesitate to stop and say hello 👋

Belper SNT Update – Duffield Patrols 🚶‍♂️

Today, officers from Belper Safer Neighbourhood Team have been on foot patrol in the Duffield area, focusing on known anti-social behaviour hotspots.

During patrols, three youths were issued with warnings for smoking cannabis in a local park. We also gathered and developed local intelligence to support ongoing work in the area.

We will continue to carry out high-visibility patrols to tackle ASB and keep our communities safe.

👀 Please remain vigilant and continue to report any suspicious activity or concerns to us – your information helps us take action.

Together, we can keep Duffield a safe place to live and visit.

| Motorcycle rider dies in crash near Belper

A man has died following a crash on the outskirts of Belper.

The 28-year-old man was riding a motorcycle which crashed into a wall whilst travelling on Belper Road at just before 3.30pm today (Friday 29 May).

Emergency services attended and despite resuscitation attempts, the man was sadly pronounced dead.

The family are aware and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

They are being supported by specialist officers.

A file will be prepared for the coroner.

No other vehicles were involved.

The road was closed for a period of time this afternoon whilst emergency services were at the scene but it has since been reopened.

With warmer weather here, more people are heading to open water spots across Derbyshire. Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is reminding everyone to stay safe and be aware of the risks and so are we!

Know the risks
🔹 Even on hot days, open water is dangerously cold – cold water shock can affect anyone
🔹 Strong currents, deep water, and hidden hazards (rocks, debris, sudden drops) can quickly put you in danger
🔹 Reservoirs and quarries often have steep sides, making it difficult to get out

✅ How to stay safe
🔹 Stick to designated swimming areas and follow local safety signage
🔹 Never swim alone – always go with someone who can raise the alarm
🔹 Supervise children closely – stay within arm’s reach around water
🔹 Avoid alcohol when in or near water – it significantly increases risk
🔹 Wear a life jacket or buoyancy aid if you're paddleboarding, kayaking or boating
🔹 Be aware of changing weather conditions and water levels

🚨 In an emergency
🔹 Call 999 or 112 and ask for Fire & Rescue
🔹 Do not enter the water to rescue someone – this can put you at risk too
🔹 Encourage the person to FLOAT TO LIVE:

• Tilt their head back with ears submerged
• Relax and try to control breathing
• Use arms and legs to stay afloat

We want everyone to enjoy the outdoors safely this summer!

Please take a moment to think before you enter the water—it could save your life.

Officers have been carrying out targeted knife sweeps across a number of locations as part of ongoing work to reduce knife crime and keep our communities safe.

Recent sweeps have taken place in:
📍 Kilburn
📍 Church Street Recreation Ground (Horeston Grange)
📍 Horeston Recreation Ground

These operations involve proactively searching open spaces, bushes, and concealed areas where weapons may be hidden. Knife sweeps are intelligence-led and form an important part of preventing weapons from being accessed or used.

While no significant finds are always positive, even the recovery of a single weapon can help prevent serious harm.

We continue to work closely with partners and the community to identify areas of concern. If you have information about knife crime or suspicious activity, please report it – your information makes a real difference.

📞 In an emergency, always call 999
📞 Non-emergency: 101
💻 Or report anonymously via Crimestoppers

Together we can make our spaces safer for everyone.

🚔 Operation Sceptre | Working Together to Keep Our Community Safe 🔪
Yesterday, local officers for Belper carried out proactive work as part of Operation Sceptre, the national week of action tackling knife crime, PCSO Barnes and team have teamed up with Safe and Sound; a Derbyshire-based charity working to protect children and young people from exploitation, including the risks linked to knife crime and serious violence. By raising awareness and offering tailored support, they help young people make safer choices and build resilience.
Working in partnership with the local Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) in Belper, Safe and Sound supports community engagement, prevention initiatives, and early intervention. This collaboration helps strengthen local safeguarding efforts, ensuring young people and families have access to guidance, support, and a visible police presence focused on keeping the community safe.
As part of today’s activity:
• ✅ A knife amnesty was held, giving members of the public an opportunity to safely dispose of knives.
• 💬 One particularly sentimental knife was surrendered, showing a powerful commitment from the owner to prioritise community safety over personal attachment.
• 🏬 PCSOs have been visiting local businesses, offering advice and ensuring retailers are aware of their responsibilities around the safe and responsible sale of knives.
And in true British fashion… 🌦️
Our officers have taken it all in their stride despite some very “indecisive” weather today — from heavy rain, to sunshine, and straight back to rain again! - both photos taken minutes apart… Safe to say, we’ve experienced all four seasons in the space of a single shift, but it hasn’t stopped us getting the job done. 🚓☔🌞
We thank everyone who engaged with us today. Every knife taken off the streets and every conversation held helps make our communities safer.
If you have any concerns about knife crime or would like advice, please speak to your local officers.
