🌟 NEW TRAINING ROUTEWAYS AT ROUTES TO WORK

We're thrilled to announce that we are now offering two brand new FREE training routeways, each one designed to give you the skills, confidence, and connections you need to step into a real job. Before the courses begin, we're holding information sessions where you can find out everything you need to know and we'd love to see you there.

📞 Contact Centre Routeway
Do you like the idea of a job where you get to talk to people every day and thrive in a fast-paced, energetic environment? If call centre jobs have ever appealed to you but you weren't sure how to get started, this is exactly what you've been looking for. This programme covers everything from customer service and telephone techniques through to conflict resolution and interview preparation — with direct links to local employers at the end of it.
👉 Info Session: Tuesday 16th June, 10am–12pm at The Bentley Hotel, Motherwell
👉 Course: 22nd June - 26th June
To find out more or to register your interest, contact our trainer Allister Rutherford on 07386 682 827.

🏥 NHS Laundry Assistant Routeway
Are you someone who takes pride in hard work, likes to keep busy on shift, and would love the stability of one of the most sought-after NHS jobs in Scotland? This is an active, hands-on role, so a good level of physical fitness will help you get the most out of it. This routeway will prepare you for a support role within the West of Scotland Laundry — a vital service delivering linen to hospitals and health centres right across the region.
👉 Info Session: Wednesday 18th June, 9am–1pm at Netherton Community Centre, Wishaw
👉 Course Start: 1st July - 10th July

Stress about that first day of work outfit? It is a lot more common than you might think.

Knowing what to wear to work in a new environment is something that nobody really prepares young people for - and whether there is a work uniform involved or they need to figure out their own work outfits, it can feel like a surprisingly big source of worry before they have even started.

In the final part of our "Things Nobody Tells You About Your First Job" series, Laura shares some simple advice to help your young person feel confident and prepared before they even walk through the door.

At Routes to Work, we support young people across North Lanarkshire with all aspects of getting into work and sometimes it really is the smaller things that make the biggest difference ✅

There was a time when Louise barely left the house.

Low confidence, no routine and that exhausting feeling of being completely stuck had quietly become her everyday life. Social isolation had crept in so gradually that it had started to feel normal. She was out of work for a while and just wanted to feel like herself again... then she found Routes to Work.

Her caseworker Jane didn't push Louise towards employment straightaway. She sat down with her, listened, and helped her build a plan around what Louise actually needed. Parents' Club sessions put her in a room with people who genuinely understood what she was going through. Life coaching through one of our partner organisations helped her with building confidence to return to the workplace and volunteering gave her somewhere to be, something to contribute, and people to look forward to seeing.

For anyone dealing with support for anxiety after being out of work for a long time, Louise's story shows that it is possible to start feeling better and that community support can make all the difference when you have the right people around you.

Louise's days look different now and it started with a conversation.

If any part of Louise's story sounds familiar, we'd love to hear from you. There is no expectation to start looking for work straight away, and reaching out will not affect your benefits, allowances, or pension.

Our support is free, confidential, and built entirely around you.

Just left school with no plans yet? You're not on your own.

For a lot of young people, figuring out what to do after school is the hardest part. Things like putting together a CV for the first time, having never done a job interview, or just not being sure what kind of work is right.

At Routes to Work, we work with young people in North Lanarkshire every day who are in exactly that position — school leavers who aren't sure where to turn or how to get started. Our team can help you with:
✏️ Building a CV that actually gets noticed — even if you've never had a job before
🗣️ Preparing for interviews so you go in feeling ready, not terrified
🔍 Exploring what kind of career could be the right fit and without any pressure to have it all figured out straight away

Whether you need help finding your first job or you're still working out what direction to go in, we're here for that 🩵

If you've got a young person at home who could do with a bit of help getting started, feel free to share this post their way as we would love to hear from them!

Part 3 is here and this one might be the most relatable yet.

"So, what are your strengths?" — four words that can make your mind go completely blank, even if you've got plenty to offer.

Suddenly you're sitting there wondering if "I can make a good spaghetti bolognese" counts as a job skill.

In this week's video, we're sharing some honest job interview tips on how to answer that exact question with what works and what REALLY doesn't 😂

Whether you're looking for help with your first job interview or you just haven't done one in a while, we hope this one helps.

And if you want proper interview prep beyond the videos, that's what we're here for.

At Routes to Work, we offer interview techniques training and a range of other support to help you feel confident and prepared when it matters most.
