Every five days.

That’s how often someone is killed on Northern Ireland’s roads.

So far this year 47 local people have lost their lives as a result of collisions, with 32 of those deaths occurring as a result of crashes on rural roads.

As a society we really need to change this. We need to stop the number of deaths from climbing any higher by working together to make our roads safer.

If we each begin to take more personal responsibility for our actions as road users of all kinds, pay heed to the Fatal Five and begin to do things a little differently on our roads, they will be a much, much safer place for all of us.

This coming week, Monday 7 September - Friday 11 September, is Rural Crime Week 2026.

Throughout the week we will highlight the types of crimes that affect our rural communities and explore the ongoing work of police and partners to tackle it.

Ahead of the launch of Rural Crime Week tomorrow, we want to introduce you to the individual organisations who make up Northern Ireland’s Rural Crime Partnership (RCP).

The RCP is made up of representatives from Police Service of Northern Ireland Department of Justice NI .gov.uk Ulster Farmers' Union Young Farmers' Clubs of Ulster FSB Northern Ireland Mutual and Policing and Community Safety Partnerships

Members of the Partnership work together to tackle rural crime and support rural communities across Northern Ireland. It provides a mechanism for police and rural-focused organisations to come together to identify the issues which directly affect our rural communities, highlight any trends in criminality, devise strategies and programmes to specifically address the concerns and priorities of rural communities, and prevent crime to help our rural communities feel safer.

Over the last two days, with the schools starting back, members of the TSG have been carrying out road safety patrols in the Belfast area. As a result of this activity numerous offences were detected including vehicles being used without insurance, driving whilst disqualified, displaying false number plates, drugs possession, excess speeding, misuse of mobile phones and careless driving. These detections resulted in penalty notices being issued and report files to the PPS.

The law about fireworks is clear - it is illegal to possess, sell, handle or use fireworks if you do not have a licence. You can be fined up to £5,000 for breaking the law.

Stay safe and make sure you only buy fireworks from a licensed seller and that you are licensed to use them.

Police are concerned for the whereabouts of missing 16 year old female, Paris Williams. Paris was last seen in the area of Divis Street at approximately 0300 hours on Saturday 29th August. Paris is approximately 5ft tall, slim build with short dark hair and was last observed wearing a black hoodie, black leggings and a white bandana.

Police are currently concerned about the whereabouts of Missing Person Liam McGill.
Liam was last seen in the Cliftonville Road Area of North Belfast at 10am on 28th August 2026.

Police are currently concerned about the whereabouts of missing person, 49 year old Mehmet Koksal.

Mehmet was last seen within the grounds of Belfast City Hospital on Saturday 29th August 2026 at 1140am.

He is believed to be wearing a khaki coloured zip up hoody, shorts and blue and white trainers. He currently has black hair and black facial hair.
