It is the last Irish infantry regiment of the British Line. The 1st Battalion is based in Tern Hill, Shropshire and has recently rejoined 16 Air Assault Brigade where it will combine high-readiness with the light protected mobility provided by the next generation of Infantry vehicles. The 2nd Battalion is an Army Reserve battalion with companies located across Northern Ireland. It has a proud reco

rd of deploying more Reservists in support of operations than any other Army Reserve unit. Faugh a Ballagh

Challenge. Competition. Teamwork.

Soldiers from 2 R IRISH went head-to-head in the annual Mahood and Hamilton Cup competitions, testing skill, endurance and leadership across a series of demanding military challenges.

Teams from across the Battalion tackled everything from Fighting in Built Up Areas (FIBUA) and woodland operations to Armoured Fighting Vehicle drills, intelligence tasks, observation posts and a tough 2km mortar carry.

The Mahood Cup also pushed soldiers to their limits through fast-paced orienteering across difficult terrain.

More than just competition, the event prepares the Battalion for Exercise PANTHERS CYCLONE 26 in Denmark later this year - proving that life in the Infantry is about teamwork, resilience and performing under pressure.

If you’re looking for challenge, adventure and the chance to be part of a tight-knit team, this is what being part of 2 R IRISH is all about.
