Commission for Victims and Survivors The Commission for Victims and Survivors works to promote the interests of victims and survivors of the Northern Ireland Conflict.

We carry out research to assess the needs of those most impacted by the Troubles and use this as an evidence base to advise government on policy and practice. We do this to improve the lives and experiences of those who have been impacted by the Northern Ireland conflict and we ensure their voice is central to the advice we give. This work is a Statutory Duty of ours, outlined in law through The V

ictims and Survivors (Northern Ireland) Order 2006. The functions of the Commission are carried out by 12 members of staff. Find out more about what we do at www.cvsni.org.

Commissioner for Victims and Survivors Joe McVey recently met with residents from the Fountain area of Derry/Londonderry, following discussions at the Exodus conference earlier this month.

Residents spoke about the issues facing victims and survivors and the wider community, highlighting the impact of ongoing attacks on daily life, feelings of isolation and vulnerability, and concerns about the support and understanding available to them.

They also expressed a desire to work constructively with statutory agencies and community partners to address these concerns and help ensure people can feel safe and secure within their community.

Yesterday, the Commissioner and the Victims and Survivors Forum met with the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Sir Chris Bryant, to discuss the issues facing victims and survivors.

The meeting provided an important opportunity to hear directly from Forum Members about their experiences, priorities and concerns, and to discuss how government can work to better support and serve victims and survivors.

We are grateful to the Secretary of State for taking the time to listen and engage on these important issues in what we hope is the first of many engagements.
