Day 7of

Did you know? 💡

Our yellow EA buses are fitted with special warning lights called ‘Jack and Jill lights’ to alert drivers when children are getting on or off the bus. 🚸

If you see these lights flashing on one of the EA's yellow buses, be aware that children and young people will be getting on or off the vehicle.

We encourage all road users to exercise caution around school buses, particularly when they are stopping or taking off.

More information on safe travelling to and from school can be found on the Home to School Transport section of our website: www.eani.org.uk

📣 Update on School Transport for New School Year

Building on our work to improve the cost effectiveness of school taxi contracts, EA has concluded further important work for the new school year. In doing so, we have tendered over 1,200 runs. Early analysis indicates that mileage rates tendered have reduced by around 15%. EA welcomes the support of those taxi operators that worked with us to achieve this outcome.

Regrettably, however, there remains a number of routes where this improvement has not been made. We are of the view that on some of those routes, operators are charging excessive rates.

Every day, across Northern Ireland's schools and communities, EA staff are quietly changing lives. Tara-Jayne is one of them.

An Educational Psychologist (EP) working in our Western Region, Tara-Jayne has just been named a finalist in this year's Fermanagh Community Champion Awards, now in their third year, recognising individuals whose compassion, commitment and selflessness make a difference every single day.

Now in her 9th year as an EP, Tara-Jayne focuses on identifying strengths, understanding individual needs, and promoting inclusive practice, helping children and young people overcome barriers to learning, development and wellbeing so they can achieve their true potential.

As one colleague put it 'an Educational Psychologist is a true community champion who makes a lasting difference to the lives of children, young people, families and schools'.

Through compassion, expertise and collaboration, they help create opportunities for every child to flourish, ensuring that strengths are recognised, voices are heard and potential is realised.

Stories like Tara-Jayne's are why matters. Behind every statistic, every service, every school day that runs smoothly, there are people like her doing extraordinary work.

Congratulations, Tara-Jayne, and good luck for the awards!

The Education Authority recognises the dedication and hard work required to meet the demand for SEN school places for the new school year.

But it has warned that the limitations of the current approach to SEN provision will become increasingly clear.

In contrast to previous years, all children with a statement of special educational needs starting nursery, Year 1 or Year 8 secured a school place ahead of the new school year.

However, we must again warn that the current approach cannot properly or sustainably meet levels of need. Crucially, large-scale investment is urgently required to expand and enhance the special school estate. Alongside this, a significantly higher level of specialist SEN provision in mainstream schools is also needed.
