Social value policy within our procurement contracts is mandated by the NI Executive. We have been working with the Strategic Investment Board (SIB), and internal services to implement Social Value initiatives within contracts for the benefit of our children and young people.

The Strategic Investment Board (SIB) put together a case study of our contract for fuel oil awarded to the LCC Group.

Working in partnership, the EA and LCC Group Ltd delivered social value initiatives that made a real difference for children and young people across Northern Ireland, including the provision of solar feasibility studies to three schools.

🌟 Governor Spotlight: Peter Aiken | Volunteers’ Week 🌟

Since 2001, Peter Aiken has had the privilege of serving on various Schools’ Boards of Governors across both the primary and post-primary sectors in the Portadown and Craigavon areas. More recently, he has proudly represented the Portadown College community as Chairperson of the Board of Governors.

Peter’s journey began when his children were in primary school and he was appointed to the former Southern Education & Library Board. He wanted to better understand the education system, support his own personal development, and bring his life and career experience to benefit those working in today’s challenging education environment.

Over the years, gaining experience across different sectors has been invaluable. Working alongside fellow volunteer Governors enables Peter to contribute to a team that brings diverse perspectives and real-world insight to support education professionals.

As Chair, Peter is currently supporting the Principal in progressing plans for a new suite of buildings for the College - helping to lay strong foundations for high-quality education for the next 50+ years.

Seeing the achievements of current and former students is incredibly rewarding. Knowing that his volunteering may have played even a small part in that success makes his contribution even more meaningful.

Peter highlights that Governors are a vital part of the team - supporting staff, helping to appoint colleagues, engaging with community events, and sharing knowledge from business and everyday life.

💬 Want to give something back? Celebrate success? Support your community and your family?
👉 Consider becoming a School Governor.
