Huge congratulations to our latest two recruits from 64 Sqn, Chorley for successfully passing off the parade square from their Phase 1 Mod 3 course (previously known as the Bravo course).

A special mention must go to Pte G who won the award for best shot on the whole course 💪

This is an intensive 15 day course in which recruits are trained and mentored by experienced Army staff and is a consolidation of the training undertaken during the Foundation weekend and Mod 2. Recruits are trained in a variety of military aspects including:

- Fieldcraft
- Weapon handling
- Physical fitness
- Drill
- Battlefield casualty drills
- Map reading

Our new members are now ready to begin their trade training and can start attending alongside the rest of 64 squadron (Chorley). We wish you all the best in your careers in the Army Reserve - welcome to the team! 😎

108 squadron of 253 (North Irish) Medical Regiment led some fantastic training last weekend in CBRN - Chemical, Biological, Radiological & Nuclear warfare.

All soldiers of all trades are trained to survive and operate efficiently in a CBRN environment, wearing their protective suit and respirator. They are taught a series of important lessons including how to:

- recognise, cordon and report a CBRN incident
- triage casualties and administer appropriate first aid
- decontaminate themselves and their kit
- change a canister in their respirator
- eat and drink safely, and
- carry out all essential soldiering tasks.

A common theme in the Army - the “buddy-buddy system” is an important part of CBRN training whereby everyone works together in pairs to ensure that all troops are kitted up and kept safe 😎

We would like to extend a huge congratulations to our latest two recruits to join the ranks here at 253 (North Irish) Medical Regiment! They both successfully passed off the parade square at Ballykinler Training Camp in County Down last weekend, after completing their Phase 1 Mod 3 course (previously known as the Bravo course).

This is a 15 day course in which recruits are trained and mentored by first class Army staff, and is a consolidation of the training undertaken during the Foundation weekend and Mod 2. Recruits are trained in a variety of military aspects including:

- Fieldcraft
- Weapon handling
- Physical fitness

It has been a busy couple of weeks here at 253 (North Irish) Medical Regiment, with 3 different courses being run by 2 of our members over the past fortnight. The courses included were Emergency First Aid at Work (also recognised as a civilian qualification), the Battlefield Casualty Drills Instructors’ course, and Defence Train the Trainer (DTTT) - a qualification which must be completed by all personnel who will undertake instructional duties to train others.

Each course was attended by members of units from all across Northern Ireland, with various different cap badges and backgrounds. Frequently personnel wishing to obtain these qualifications have to travel across to the mainland to do so, so running them in-house provided the opportunity to learn and achieve a bit closer to home.

Congratulations to everyone on their new qualifications and thanks for all your hard work! 👩‍🎓

Our Recruiting & Mentoring Team have been out and about at Glenarm Castle for Camp Dalfest, originally know as The Dalriada Festival! A great day was had by all in a wonderful family atmosphere - we even managed to get some all important First Aid demonstrations in! Thanks to everyone who came over for a chat, we hope you went away knowing something you didn’t know when you arrived.

Our state of the art ‘SimMan’ is one of the best patient simulators in healthcare, specifically designed to enable students and professionals to train in realistic medical scenarios. Used by our combat medics, doctors and nurses, we can simulate a vast array of conditions and physiological responses; we can even make SimMan speak and respond to medical interventions! Just one of the many tools we can use to help improve the knowledge and skills of our members here at 253 (North Irish) Medical Regiment.

Some of our members here at 253 (North Irish) Medical Regiment recently had the honour of being presented with their Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medals. A commemorative medal created to mark the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s ascension to the throne, and also a symbol of gratitude to qualifying members of the Armed Forces, frontline emergency services and the prison service. Well done everyone and thank you for your hard work and dedication! 🫶🏻

Statistics have shown that Armed Forces personnel are 65% more likely to be involved in a fatal car crash than civilians are. Road safety can often be considered a boring topic, but the high percentage of those killed or seriously injured on our roads makes it a topic we all need to pay attention to.

For this reason, our RLC drivers of 110 Squadron here at 253 (North Irish) Medical Regiment take part in continuous education in the form of driver training packages, theory training, familiarisation and conversion courses, and even exercises overseas. One such training package was ‘Exercise Rolling Road’, which culminated in a trip to the forests of Garelochhead, Scotland. Here the drivers focused on equipment care, camouflage and concealment, and vehicle recovery serials.

Importantly, the Road Safety theme is also pushed out unit-wide at all levels. Previously our Medics have had the opportunity to work with the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service in a multi-agency exercise, integrating our medical services within a serious RTC scenario.

If you have any questions about joining us as a Driver, Medic, or any other role, send us a message today. And drive safe folks! 🚘

108 Squadron have been taking part in some Close Quarters Battle (CQB) training! This involves training with different fi****ms in scenarios against multiple combatants within close range. Close quarters combat must be rapid and precise, so proficiency in weapon handling is essential.
