During why not consider signing up to volunteer with our Witness Service? You will be supporting victims and witnesses at court. Our Witness Service offers emotional support and practical information to people going to court. This can include offering witnesses a chance to visit the court before giving evidence, explaining court procedures, accompanying a victim or witness into the courtroom, and offering the opportunity to talk over the case when it has ended.

It's and we wanted to start this week by saying thank you.

To put it simply, Victim Support NI wouldn't be able to do the work it does without our volunteers. From helping in our community service to our witness service, we would not be able to operate on the scale we do without them.

A special thank you to all our volunteers, past, present, and future! You have honestly contributed to supporting victims and witnesses of crime. To anyone reading this thinking about volunteering, feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions!

The latest issue paper from JUSTICEhq explores how victims of crime and state injustices have used the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) to help get justice. It gives examples where the Human Rights Act (HRA), which brought the ECHR into UK law, has been used by ordinary people to hold public bodies accountable, secure compensation and drive long-lasting change.

It includes a piece about our S*xual Offences Legal Advisers and a case study from one of our SOLA clients. You can find out more about their valuable work on our website.

The new BBC Panorama documentary "The Dark Side of Married at First Sight" details the allegations of three women who allege sexual misconduct by their former on-screen husbands. Two of the women say they were sexually assaulted. The documentary exposes serious safeguarding failures with the contributors claiming that welfare procedures on the reality show failed them and left them at risk of harm.

Importantly, the documentary focuses on the issue of consent in a relationship or marriage. We must stress that no form of entertainment or relationship removes someone's right to consent. Both parties need to consent to what happens and you can withdraw consent at any point if you feel uncomfortable. S*x without consent is r**e and marital r**e is illegal and punishable by law in the UK.

If you have been the victim of a sexual assault, please reach out to our team of S*xual Offences Legal Advisers for advice and support at [email protected].
