🏗️ 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗢𝗡 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗘𝗥 𝗕𝗘𝗟𝗙𝗔𝗦𝗧 𝗕𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗚𝗘 𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗘 – 𝗚𝗟𝗘𝗡𝗕𝗨𝗥𝗡 𝗥𝗢𝗔𝗗 𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗧𝗛

Following questions and some speculation locally regarding the former Belfast Bible College site on Glenburn Road South, we recently contacted the Conway Group, who purchased the site, to seek clarity around its current use and any potential future plans.

Our Secretary, Matthew Shanks, spoke with Director Kevin McGurgan, who was helpful in providing reassurance and clarification around a number of the issues that have been raised locally.

Kevin confirmed that the property was acquired as part of an ongoing expansion of the Group’s healthcare operation and, pending further improvement works, is currently being used as ancillary facilities for the Group’s care homes. This explains why some residents have seen people moving to and from the site in recent months.

We believe some of the recent speculation may be centred around the site being described as a “hostel” on Google Maps. We understand that this is not a new description and appears to have been associated with the site for some time. We hope the clarification provided by the Conway Group regarding its current use helps to address any misunderstanding or speculation arising from this.

The increased security and fencing around the perimeter were also discussed. We were advised that this was installed following break-ins at the site and is intended to keep the property and those using it secure.

The Conway Group, one of Northern Ireland’s leading care home providers, is currently working on plans to convert the site and repurpose the existing buildings into a leading care home facility, with an associated investment upwards of £25 million.

It is also welcome that, following its purchase by the Conway Group, the site is being maintained and looked after, including the listed building within the grounds, which has been a longstanding feature of the area.

Kevin assured us that the Conway Group wants to establish and maintain a positive relationship with the local community. As Dunmurry’s longstanding community association, we look forward to building on this engagement and maintaining an open line of communication as the future of the site progresses. This will include sharing any associated plans with the Association and the wider Dunmurry community.

We hope this update helps to address some of the speculation locally and provides residents with a clearer understanding of the site’s current use.

🚓 𝗗𝘂𝗻𝗺𝘂𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗦𝗡𝗜

On Friday evening, the DCA were pleased to host a meeting between Dunmurry residents and the local neighbourhood policing team (NPT) for the area. This occasion built on previous engagement with the team, having previously had a similar meeting in February this year.

We were really pleased to see such a strong turnout and interest from residents, who asked several questions and raised a variety of issues affecting Dunmurry. In doing so, commitments were made by the NPT to ensure extra patrols were carried out in the area, with a number of other issues being taken away for further enquiries.

One particular takeaway from the meeting was this: for non-emergency issues, reporting incidents via the 101 service, either by telephone or online is 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹. The NPT emphasised that this is necessary to not only investigate issues, but also to allocate police resources where necessary. 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝘁, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁!

We appreciate that the 101 service can be tiresome, so we want to emphasise to residents that any incidents they are aware of can be reported to the DCA and we can raise these with the police accordingly. All we need is the date, approximate time, and nature of the incident.

HOME HEATING OIL SUPPORT

Those WORKING can apply for this - if you household income is £30,000 per year, after you deduct your tax, national insurance and pension contributions.

𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐢𝐥 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞

💳 The £100 oil voucher scheme will open for applications on 𝙒𝒆𝙙𝒏𝙚𝒔𝙙𝒂𝙮 9𝒕𝙝 𝙎𝒆𝙥𝒕𝙚𝒎𝙗𝒆𝙧.

✅ This is a £36.4M investment that will benefit around 340,000 households.

📲 Eligible applicants will apply online and receive a pre-paid virtual voucher which can be spent at oil suppliers in Northern Ireland.

👨🏻‍💻 Applications can be made online on behalf of others (if they are unable or have no access to internet). A phone option will also be available.

Vouchers will be valid for 3 months once activated. Applications open until 31 March 2027.

A new oil support scheme to support households in Northern Ireland with home heating oil opens on 9 September. Check if you are eligible to apply online for a £100 voucher to help you buy home heating oil. Only one voucher will be allowed for each eligible residential address.

Final Day at Airtastic Lisburn!

What a fantastic final day of the Dunmurry Community Association Summer Scheme trip to Airtastic Lisburn! A huge thank you to everyone who helped make it such a special day.

Thank you to all our amazing volunteers for their time, energy, and support throughout the trip. We’re also so grateful to Travel Ireland for helping get everyone there safely, and to Airtastic Lisburn for giving our young people such a great experience.

A special thank you to Dunmurry Community Association and the Dunmurry Community Association Events Committee for all their hard work in organising and supporting the scheme.

We’d also like to thank Steven Ward, “Wee Stevie,” for popping in during his free time to visit the young people while they were bowling at Airtastic — it was brilliant to see you there!

Finally, thank you to all the parents and young people for being part of the summer scheme and making it such a memorable trip.
