Standing up for persecuted Christians ✝️

At Belfast City Council, I was proud to second a motion highlighting the persecution faced by Christians across the world.

For millions of Christians, openly practising their faith can mean discrimination, intimidation, imprisonment, violence and even death.

Religious freedom is a fundamental human right. We should never be afraid to speak out when Christians or anyone are persecuted because of their faith.

I also challenged the Sinn Féin amendment to the motion and explained why I believed it distracted from the very specific issue we were seeking to highlight.

We have a responsibility to use our voices for those who so often cannot use theirs. ✝️

“Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 5:10

I will never apologise for standing up for working class Unionist and Loyalist communities.

At Belfast City Council I challenged those who seem uncomfortable when our party gives those communities a voice.

And on Net Zero, we are entitled to ask difficult questions. When policies have consequences for household heating bills and the cost of living, elected representatives should debate them not simply accept them without question.

For me, politics should always come back to the people we represent: their homes, their bills, their communities and their future.

That is exactly what I will continue to do.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Dolly Parton. A true country music legend whose incredible career gave us timeless hits including Jolene, 9 to 5 and I Will Always Love You.

Her music, warmth and generosity touched millions around the world and her legacy will live on for generations.

Gerry Kelly says he was “horrified” by a protest.

Not by his involvement in the IRA bombing of the Old Bailey. Not by a prison officer being shot in the head during the Maze escape.

But by a protest.

Let that sink in. The hypocrisy is staggering.

An Israeli television crew comes to Belfast to film a documentary about antisemitism and ends up being physically attacked, with a cameraman struck on the head by a glass.

A man has now been charged with a number of offences following the incident.

This attack must be condemned without qualification.

Yet once again, the silence from some of the political parties who are normally first in front of the cameras condemning hate and intolerance is deafening.

You cannot pick and choose which hatred or violence you condemn depending on the nationality of the victim or whether it suits your political narrative.

Belfast should be a city where everyone can visit and work safely including Israelis.

Those who constantly lecture others about tolerance should find their voice now.

Delighted to see these old, unsightly signs in Annadale have now been removed following concerns raised with me by a local constituent.

I'd like to thank Belfast City Council for acting on the issue and getting it resolved. It's a small change, but removing neglected street furniture helps improve the appearance of our local area and shows that residents' concerns are being listened to.

If there's an issue in your area that I can help with, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Just days after I issued a statement condemning the disgraceful sectarian attack on the McCurrie & Neill Memorial, it has once again been targeted.

This repeated attack is utterly sickening. It demonstrates a deliberate and sustained campaign of hatred against a memorial dedicated to innocent victims of terrorism. Such behaviour has absolutely no place in a civilised society.

For the second time in just one week, Mr McCurrie's widow, now well into her 90s, has been forced to witness this appalling sectarian attack on the memorial to her late husband. It is difficult to imagine the hurt and distress this repeated targeting will cause her and the wider families of the innocent victims remembered there.

I again call on those responsible to be identified and brought before the courts. This cannot simply be dismissed as mindless vandalism; it is a sectarian attack on the memory of innocent people who lost their lives.

I will continue to press the relevant authorities to ensure the memorial is restored without delay and that every possible step is taken to prevent these shameful attacks from happening again. Those who believe they can intimidate or erase the memory of innocent victims will not succeed.
