District Judge Keown said “If we can address the addiction issues, then the risk of reoffending drops dramatically.”

The Substance Misuse Court, featured in the BBC documentary ‘Carl Frampton: On Probation’, takes a different approach to tackling crime - focusing on the root cause rather than just the offence.

For many people, offending is linked to drug or alcohol misuse. Probation plays a central role, working closely with individuals to manage risk, support behaviour change, and help them address the issues behind their offending.

Through supervision, guidance, and tailored programmes, probation helps people break the cycle of addiction and crime.

You can watch all episodes of Carl Frampton: On Probation now on BBC iPlayer.
