We're launching a one-off MenB vaccination programme ahead of the next academic year to protect young people from a life-threatening disease.

This will help reduce the risk of serious illness and larger outbreaks. Two doses are needed for full protection.

The vaccination will be available to:

➡️ people who complete year 13 of education in summer 2026

➡️ people under 25 starting university or moving into some further education accommodation or halls of residence for the first time in autumn 2026

It was a pleasure for Healthwatch Bedford Borough to attend the grand launch of ACCM UK's new community hub today 🎈

The new hub provides a welcoming space where people can connect, access support, and build opportunities together. It was inspiring to see so many supporters and community members come together to celebrate this important achievement.

A warm welcome and congratulations to Violet Swierkot on her recent appointment as ACCM’s new Director. Wishing her every success as she leads the organisation into this exciting new chapter.

Today, Healthwatch Bedford Borough was delighted to attend the Blue Sky Carers Support event as part of Carers Week.

It was wonderful to meet local carers, hear about their experiences, and share information about the work we do to make sure local people's voices help shape health and social care services.

We would like to thank Blue Sky Carers Support for organising such a valuable event and everyone who stopped by to chat with us. Carers play a vital role in our communities, and Carers Week is an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate their contribution.

It was good to meet local residents, have some really interesting conversations, and hear about the things that matter most to people in the community. These chats help Healthwatch Bedford Borough understand local experiences and make sure your views help shape health and care services.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello – it was fantastic to connect with you all!

What is an unpaid carer? 💙

An unpaid carer is someone who helps look after a family member, friend, or loved one who could not manage without their support.

Many carers balance caring responsibilities alongside work, education, family life, and their own wellbeing, often without recognition or support.

Carers Week is about recognising the incredible people who quietly do so much every single day and reminding carers that they are not alone 💙

Are You Registered as a Carer with Your GP? 💙

If you care for someone, it’s important your GP is aware of your caring role so they can offer the right support.

Benefits of registering include:
✔️ Priority or flexible appointments
✔️ Flu vaccinations and health checks
✔️ Access to local carers support services
✔️ Understanding and recognition of your caring role
✔️ Awareness of your situation in case of any contingency or emergency, helping ensure the right support is in place if you become unwell or unable to care temporarily

Registering helps make sure you are supported, and the person you care for is considered in any unexpected situation. 💚

Today, Dylan, our Community Intelligence and Insight Officer, has been out and about visiting local faith settings and charity shops across Bedford Borough.

These visits are a valuable opportunity to meet locals and build relationships with trusted community organisations.
