"These thefts aren’t just attacks on our fire stations – they’re attacks on the safety of every person in Bedfordshire"

We're urgently appealing for public vigilance after two of our fire stations were targeted by criminals in just three days - stealing approximately £40k of Road Traffic Collision equipment. Harrold and Bedford fire stations were targetted by thieves this week.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service would like to wish the Muslim communities in Bedfordshire Ramadan Mubarak ✨

We are here for you throughout Ramadan and beyond, ready to offer safety advice, support, and guidance whenever you need us.

During the celebration of Ramadan, please remember this safety advice:
💫 Take extra care when cooking with oil, as it easily sets alight. If hot oil ignites, turn off the heat under the pan (if it’s safe to do so) and allow it to cool completely and don’t move the pan.
💫 Dry deep-fried food before putting it in hot oil and turn off the heat if the oil starts to smoke. Never fill the pan more than one-third full of oil.
💫 If a pan or wok is smoking excessively, turn off the heat.
💫 If there is a burning pan, cover it with a damp tea-towel and turn off the heat.
💫 Avoid leaving cooking unattended.

In the event of a fire in your home remember get out, stay out and call 999 and ask for the fire service 🚒

🎃🔥 National Burns Awareness Day – Costume Safety Matters! 🔥🎃
From all of us at Bedford Community Fire Station, we’re joining the Children’s Burns Trust to raise awareness about burn prevention this Halloween.
👻 Costumes can catch fire quickly – especially those made from synthetic materials.
🕯️ Candles, pumpkins, sparklers, and open flames pose real risks to children in fancy dress.
✅ Top Tips for a Safe Halloween:

Choose costumes labelled “flame-resistant”.
Avoid long trailing fabrics that can brush against candles or flames.
Use battery-operated lights instead of candles in pumpkins.
Teach children to “STOP, DROP & ROLL” if their clothing catches fire.
Keep costumes away from open fires, heaters, and candles.

Let’s make Halloween spooky, not smoky!
Help us spread the word and keep our community safe.

🚨 First Aid for Burns – Know What to Do 🚨
In partnership with the Children’s Burns Trust
Burns and scalds can happen in seconds, especially to children. Knowing how to respond quickly and correctly can make a life-changing difference in recovery and reduce long-term scarring.
🧊 COOL – Run cool water over the burn for 20 minutes.
📞 CALL – Seek medical help for burns larger than a 50p coin. Call 999, 111, or your GP.
🩹 COVER – Use cling film or a clean, non-fluffy cloth to protect the burn. Keep the person warm.
❌ Never use ice, butter, or creams on a burn.
👕 Remove clothing and jewellery near the burn – unless stuck to the skin.
These simple steps – Cool, Call, Cover – can help prevent infection, reduce pain, and improve healing outcomes.
Let’s keep our children safe. Share this post and help spread awareness.

Flood Action Week 2025: Stay Safe This Week! 🌊

This afternoon, Bedford’s Water Rescue unit was out supporting our community as a Flood Action Group in Leighton Buzzard – helping residents chat about flood risks and get ready together. It’s all part of Flood Action Week (13-19 October), and we’re here to keep everyone safe.

One quick tip: Sign up for free flood warnings from the Environment Agency – it’ll give you that heads-up to move to higher ground early.

Takes just a minute and could make all the difference.

Check it out here:

🚒 A varied shift for White Watch yesterday with several fire calls across the area.

In between incidents, we visited Priory Court for a routine site check. Thanks to BPHA for showing us around and answering our questions 👏.

While on site, we also pitched our aerial platform for some training 🏗️ — making sure our crews stay sharp and ready whenever it’s needed.
